  1. Now Available: 2024.07.02 Software Update: Tesla Supercharger Access Coming Soon, Navigation Improvements, Room Entry And Exit Enhancements & More

There are times it is useful. I've done back roads where I have been given specific mileage points for turn offs or destination points. It would be a PITA switching between the map and odometer while driving. The OPTION to have it would be wonderful. If some folks want drive without it, it...
  2. Open Source EV vent mount - more better

I purchased a vent mount from OpenSourceEV for my Garmin DriveSmart 86 but it had some fitting issues. My new R1S had a slightly different dash design so the end tab wouldn’t properly seat. Rob sent me a redesigned one but that one was still a little off. His “Next Generation” is much...
  3. Colorado and Rivian

I want to bring my R1S to Lost Dollar Road. The same one I did a few years ago with another unnamed vehicle. And then hang for a couple days in Durango...
  4. Why does USB-C charging outlet only output 15 watts?

    I felt your pain... https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/socket-two-me-more-better-installed-12-volt-outlets-under-the-dash.22873/
  5. Switched from Launch Edition Quad to Dual Motor Max Pack Performance -- my impressions / review

Here is your "half a chance". I tried this and it works very well. https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/rivian-500hz-horn-upgrade-installed-pics-video-sound-clip.22096/
  6. Rivian doesn't cost less to drive on long trips

Here is a rate comparison with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District.
  7. Rivian doesn't cost less to drive on long trips

California is an expensive place to live my friend. I dumped the service records after the car was gone but the the $999.00 and the $931.86 were for two of the 10,000 mile services. One involved brake fluid change and the other transmission fluid. The $972.11 was for the rear brakes after...
  8. The great Chicago Tesla debacle has defeated my father in-law's Rivian ideas... [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

Norway gets 88% of its electricity from hydro and another 10% from wind. They payed for their electrical infrastructure by being the eighth largest exporter of oil and the third largest exporter of natural gas. My mother's cousin was a petroleum hellfighter on the North Sea oil project.
  9. Rivian doesn't cost less to drive on long trips

Not necessarily BS. His experience was probably similar to mine with the SQ5. Just a quick look at some old records... When they wanted $1,500 for the front brakes at 40,000 miles, I was done.
  10. Rivian doesn't cost less to drive on long trips

True. But if my Kia EV6 GT-Line FE with 28K miles is any comparison, the total maintenance cost would be $30 for a cabin filter.
  11. Rivian doesn't cost less to drive on long trips

Unlike your other vehicles, the Rivian doesn't need oil changes, service sessions in the hundreds of dollars, smog checks, regular brake jobs, a laundry list of mechanical repairs - and nobody is going to steal your catalytic converter. (My last Audi was my biggest money pit.) Your "long trip"...
  12. Kia EV9. What many R1S buyers would be very happy with...

I sat in an EV9 GT-Line. I considered it before I bought the R1S. It checked some boxes like my Kia EV6 GT-L FE. Car Play, AM radio, sunroof that opens. Lack of ground clearance was the deal killer. Also the dealer ADM which brought it up to $78,000 - Rivian country.
  13. Rivian Subscription Services - A Look At What's Coming?

They need the money to update satellite images. The view in my area is seven years old. This is the view from a shopping center that has been open for six years.
  14. R1S middle row seat removal easier than expected and wow what a difference.

Great for sleeping when you can deflate the tire to 10 pounds for a pillow. ?
  15. Socket "two" me - more better: installed 12 volt outlets under the dash

I’m not going to doubt your course. I’m think it was based on recommended specifications - not a “Federal” rule. I’ve had vehicles with the battery mounted under the seat, in the trunk, in the far corner of the engine compartment - way more than 12 inches to the fuse block. They want the fuse...
  16. Socket "two" me - more better: installed 12 volt outlets under the dash

There are wires going to the fuse block that would just as susceptible as the ones leaving. There is more of a chance of device failure or overloading than damage to wiring hidden away. The block may be preferable but it's access difficulty was the deal breaker for me.
  17. Socket "two" me - more better: installed 12 volt outlets under the dash

I considered it but I wasn't sure of the amperage rating and there are no USB ports on the dash.
  18. Socket "two" me - more better: installed 12 volt outlets under the dash

The screws hold it quite securely and any force will be lateral to mount.
  19. Socket "two" me - more better: installed 12 volt outlets under the dash

I considered that location but I didn't want to screw into unchartered territory.
