Yeah, I should never have updated it from the old version. I've gone back to Plugshare for just doing basic planning, with a combination of Google Maps and Rivian's software.
I think the Rivian is actually a Land Rover in pickup form. Very sturdy, tending towards luxury, lots of bespoke components. I'd actually prefer something more down-market and cheaper to fix. But, my choices are limited.
I test drove the Silverado RST & LT, along with the Ford Lightning before I settled on the Rivian. One issue I had was that where I work we have a parking ramp that is pretty tight for a mid-sized truck, and the RST would be a handful in there. I also use my truck as my daily driver, so...
If someone came out with a mid-sized EV truck that could tow the same as a R1T, but had regular spring suspension and a bigger battery that charged quicker, I'd seriously think about trading in my current truck. I'm a day to day truck guy, meaning I haul stuff and I tow stuff. I'd don't...
If you buy a used demo vehicle, it is treated as a 'new' vehicle and you get a warranty that starts on day one of your ownership. If you buy a non-demo used vehicle, you get whatever OEM warranty is left on your vehicle that existed since the first owner took possession.
For instance, I bought...
For me, having an EV truck that could replace my Ridgeline while doing everything it could do was the goal. The R1T did that at about 90%, excepting ease of fueling when towing a trailer. I made that work because I wanted to move to an EV for personal reasons, and I felt the trade-off was...
There's not much in the way of off-roading available around here (Minnesota). Realistically, I'd rather rent a side by side and let the owner deal with the mud and scratches. I have no problem with folks doing it, its just not something that interests me.
Not sure how long I'll keep the R1T. If I can maintain it without it costing me an arm and a leg, I'll do it. Also, if there's a radical improvement in battery technology, I might bite the bullet and buy something new. No matter what, I'm going to need a truck of some sort for hauling stuff.
Check with your local electrical utility to see if they have any programs for discount rates, and make sure they don't specify a particular make/model of charger. Case in point- here in MN if you want to take advantage of Xcel's EV program you have to use a Chargpoint EVSE. That particular...
Likewise, until there's an EV compact truck, I can't see myself replacing my R1T. I might consider a Silverado or Sierra EV, but commuting in a full-sized truck would be a PITA, especially parking in my company's ramp. Honestly, I'd probably buy the cheapest used ICE truck I could find to tide...
Try to combine charging stops with other activities (meals, etc.) Given that this is the East Coast, you're gonna have a ton of choices for charging. Try to pick ones that are close to amenities that you want or need.
Another interesting point that comes up when I discuss this with my non-ev friends is the episode of 'Hoovies Garage' where he had trouble towing with an F-150 lightning. They all bring up that episode as proof that EV trucks can't tow. The other point is that, of my group of friends, I'm to...
This. If Ford or Chevy had a compact truck that was an EV, I would probably have bought it. As it was, I was faced with a full-sized truck or the R1T. Ford would have been much better off leaving the F-150 for the coal-rollers and folks who might need to tow some day (maybe), and putting out...
If it's like here in Minnesota, the buyer will be paying sales tax when they register the vehicle and apply for a title in their name. Depending on the state, they'll probably have to cough up a few more fees (process, new license plate(s), etc.). For the seller, there's not much to report or pay.
I just got back from a 3 week trip, and here's what I did:
Got the HV battery down to 50% state of charge, and set the charge limit in the truck for 50%.
Plugged in my portable (level 1) charger into an outlet in my garage and set the charging rate in the truck to 8 amps (you could do this...
