  1. Tesla FSD Full Self Driving & Rivian ?

That is spot on. You have to invest a fortune in this space to have any hope of achieving FSD. Rivian just doesn’t have the R&D budget to keep up. Plenty of other automakers don’t either. Tesla can’t do robotaxis yet, but they have cars that can do about 99% of your driving for you. That is...
  2. Will Rivian ever get FSD?

Rivian doesn’t have the money to develop it on their own. Maybe they will license it. If they do neither, they are probably wasting money on all of those cameras, sensors, and compute. The new FSD is very good. It has been doing 99% of my driving the last few weeks. It’s a little slow...
  3. R1 Refresh announcement soon?

There was no confirmation of new features. We’ll get that soon, though. They need to reduce costs, but they can’t afford to sit still. They need to build excitement.
  4. Tesla FSD Full Self Driving & Rivian ?

Yesterday, FSD dodged a tree branch that was hanging a little into my lane. It gives joggers at the side of the road space. It waits for people to cross at a crosswalk. It lines up the tires with the gap in a speed bump to make the ride better. I’m guessing it could handle that pothole crew as...
  5. Possible updates / upgrades coming s00n! R2 software? -- Q&A with head of software Wassym Bensaid

My guess is that this would be expensive enough that nobody would be willing to pay for it.
  6. Tesla FSD Full Self Driving & Rivian ?

FSD v12 is far from vaporware. It’s a very good L2 system. L5 would be far more valuable, but that doesn’t mean L2 isn’t useful. There are only a couple of things Tesla needs to fix to get the vast majority of my drives to being intervention free. I’m guessing both of the problems get fixed in...
  7. Tesla FSD Full Self Driving & Rivian ?

I live in Texas, and the drivers here show little sign of deep planning either. It’s not hard for me to picture the AIs doing better. Keep in mind that half of drivers have below average IQs!
  8. Tesla FSD Full Self Driving & Rivian ?

You should at least try it. It’s really cool. Like most of us, you’ll probably grow old someday and need this tech. Wouldn’t you still want to have the option of buying a Rivian with it?
  9. Tesla FSD Full Self Driving & Rivian ?

I don’t think Rivian’s data is all that valuable. They just don’t have that many cars on the road. I fully expect that Tesla would be asking for major licensing fees for the tech. We do know how far along Rivian is. They have a system that works on a very limited set of mapped highways. Tesla...
  10. Tesla FSD Full Self Driving & Rivian ?

Rivian wouldn’t be handing the data over for free. They are getting in return a system that they can’t afford to develop on their own.
  11. Tesla FSD Full Self Driving & Rivian ?

I like ripping through winding roads myself, but I don’t mind the car handling boring highways and bumper to bumper traffic. There isn’t much fun to be had there.
  12. Tesla FSD Full Self Driving & Rivian ?

FSD v12 is amazing technology. I don’t own Tesla stock or worship Elon. Tesla is now hoovering up data at a massive rate, so I expect constant improvements. It’s going to be really, really good by the end of the year. I haven’t had to make any safety disengagements yet in my trial. I sometimes...
  13. Tesla FSD Full Self Driving & Rivian ?

Rivian would have to share data to make it work on Rivians. I think they would be okay with that.
  14. Rivian charger or Tesla universal charger?

Here is an unpopular opinion. I used the mobile charger with an appliance outlet and never felt I needed anything fancier. It was always fully charged in the morning. Just make sure you have an industrial grade outlet. If you road trip constantly, the plugging and unplugging might be less than...
  15. R1 Refresh (vs. Pre-Refresh) Reliability

I would wait for the refresh, but I wouldn’t buy the first one off the line.
  16. Rivian cuts another 1% of workforce in new layoff (April 17, 2024)

Sell Tesla. They have major downside risk right now. Buy Microsoft.
  17. Worried about buying a Rivian if the company fails

The net debt is negative. That’s a good thing! Read the last line. This is a weird way to graph it, I will admit, so I can see why it would be confusing.
  18. Rivian cuts another 1% of workforce in new layoff (April 17, 2024)

Nearly all customer service will be done by AIs in the next 5 years.
  19. Worried about buying a Rivian if the company fails

Tesla also has $30B in cash and is profitable. Its survival is not really in doubt any longer. I do think a Chinese company would buy Rivian in the end, but I wish Tesla would do it, as I would prefer to buy from an American company. I just don’t see Rivian surviving as an independent company.
