I loved my R1s. It is an amazing piece of engineering. That said, an amazing product doesn’t necessarily make for a good company, and even a great company doesn’t make for a good stock price. I think sometimes people don’t get that. I’m cheering for Rivian, and I hope to own one again soon, but...
I sold my silver R1s with OC, 22s, 1800 miles, and in flawless condition to Carmax for $74k a few weeks back. I miss it, but I hope to get another R1 or an R2 in the next couple years.
I’m guessing QM is going to be < 10% of sales going forward. There just aren’t many people willing to pay for that kind of performance. It’s going to be a low volume halo product. I like going fast, but the base dual motor is still plenty fast. They really need a cheaper RWD variant. That would...
I agree that the primary goal of the refresh is cost reduction. You can’t run with negative gross margins forever. I just think that they will also start including some of the R2 upgrades as well. They had to do a ton of software work for the new architecture. We are going to see that. They can...
I'm guessing that the R1 cost reduction effort in Q2 is going to involve a non-trivial refresh as well. I'm thinking it will include the R2 steering wheel, new software, and the new cameras, radars, and hardware to support self driving. I'm thinking they'll get rid of the camp speaker and...
That might be true, but perception becomes reality. Perception is bad right now, which will make it really hard for Rivian to raise the cash they need for 2026 onward. They really need to nail the R2 reveal to start changing the narrative.
There are just only so many people who can afford cars this expensive. That’s the problem. It’s not interest rates. It’s not global issues. It’s not the economy. The stock market is at all time highs. Wealthy people are sitting on highly appreciated houses, which feels good. The unemployment...
Rivian needs to find a buyer. I really wish Tesla would jump in. Tesla has the cash, they need more product, and they are good at cost reduction. It’s a good fit. I could see a Chinese buyer as well.
Fisker and Lucid are done.
I do like that they are both American designed and manufactured. I’m not a super rah rah patriot, but I do prefer buying American products when I can. I’ve had good luck with Hondas over the years, but I try harder to buy American now since there are better options compared to the dismal 1970s...
I might yet! I might still sell my Model 3 instead, but I’ve always been a small car kind of guy. The truck thing is a big change for me, even if the truck is awesome. The Model 3 is zippier, easy to park, and really efficient. The Rivian is great for seating the extended family and carrying...
You’re going to love it. Before delivery, I was really nervous about the build quality, but the one I got is really solid. Rivian has improved its quality much faster than Tesla managed to do.
That’s her. Personally, I think silver is underrated. I don’t see many of them around, but I think it’s a fantastic color for the R1S. They are also great looking in black, but I hardly ever see that color. That said, I had a black car before and will never do it again. It looked angelic when...
I've now driven my R1S for 1800 miles or so, so I thought I would write a review for the benefit of people considering a Rivian. Most of my observations are similar to others I have read, so this probably won't be particularly novel to most, but maybe I'll provide some new nuance and another...
