What are the expected delays like on the t-shirts. I understand there are supply constraints and the ramp up of production is going to take some time. If I place an order now, how soon can I expect to be in a Rivian (t-shirt)?
Why do you assume they have lower margins? Also, smaller margins can be made up for with higher volume. I believe Amazon will definitely request very high volumes of the EDV.
I don’t think of the company that is first to market with an EDV as a “niche player”. Especially with their relationship to Amazon. Those vans are ubiquitous. If Rivian can just replace all of Amazon’s ICE fleet, they are going to do very well for themselves.
As for being another legacy automaker - Ford, GM, etc. are strapped with a lot of legacy debt. They are still on the hook for large sums of money for worker pensions. Rivian, especially as a non-union shop, has none of that.
These articles seem to value Rivian as a manufacturer of vehicles only. There is no mention of any of the other revenue streams that Rivian has/will have. These articles seem superficial and lazy. I do agree that $52B seems a bit high but this is the world we are living in.
I was intrigued as well. There definitely appeared to be dot in central Pennsylvania. According to their S1, they currently can’t operate in my state at all.
Also, can we stop comparing preorder numbers? A $100 preorder is not comparable to a $1000 preorder. If we need to compare something, let’s wait a little bit and compare conversion rates for the preorders.
