  1. Motor Trend: The Best Cars, Trucks, SUVs of 2024 - Rivian R1S Quad Motor

I’ve found the dual to outperform the quad on most metrics. I’m curious to know what improvements are in this new one. Motor Trend reads like paid PR, I’m dubious they actually drove this car for a substantial period of time.
  2. 2025 Gen. 2 Vampire Drain and Processor - Software hard resets

That sounds about right. The interaction between unreliable parts, shoddy manufacturing and super buggy software makes for a bad user experience. Rivian has a monopoly on service and getting timely fixes can be frustrating. Sometimes they just shrug their shoulders. All we can offer you in...
  3. PAAK fails, only after I’ve left my house

Oddly, the keycard didn’t work to get the car started. The keycard reader might also be broken. Overall, not confidence inspiring. This type of thing happens all the time with Rivian.
  4. PAAK fails, only after I’ve left my house

Twice now, my Rivian has let mine drive away with PAAK, only to decide a key is no longer present in the vehicle after I have parked miles from home. Both times a reset solved the issue. Is there a way to prevent this going forward? Is it a hardware defect, or is this yet another Rivian bug I...
  5. Matte Saffron Yellow Wrap R1S

I think you've found the perfect wrap color of the R1S. Kudos, I love it.
  6. New Gen2 Key Fob now available in Rivian gear shop

BTW, service has informed me that the G1 key fob is unavailable with no ETA. So don’t lose yours. Personally, my fob works much better than my phone, so it’s a shame they bungled this up. Also, several drivers of my Rivians are unwilling to give Rivian 24x7 access to their location in order to...
  7. R2 walkthrough review by Doug DeMuro

I find it hilarious that Doug, who is 6'3", absolutely will not be caught dead standing close to this car at his full height. He is always sitting on a comically small stool.. This car might appeal to people 5' 8" and shorter. The shrinky-dink miniaturization of the R1 to the R2, without...
  8. Video: Google Cast in action (from new Rivian update)

Screen casting from your phone. Better yet, playback from your phone. To your car. Play car, play car... car play. So close.
  9. Tailgate won't close

Rivian pulled a Tesla and used a bunch of really cheap parts, everywhere. The latch is just one of many. It’s one that we can observe with our own eyes, but there are plenty more that are hidden from you. I would ever own this vehicle outside of warranty. Even within warranty I’m considering...
  10. R1T tailgate - sensor claims it’s open when shut

This just hit me today. It’s a three month wait for service. What a PoS this truck is. Problem after problem, just like my other two Rivians. There’s a good chance my other latch will fall before service can replace the first one.
  11. PSA: lost key fob still a three month service wait

That is all. I can use my phone in the meantime, but it never proximity unlocks up the car without fumbling for it in my pocket (and waking it up) first. Latest iPhone. At least the fob proximity unlocks “most” of the time.
  12. Study: Less than 1% of EV owners would return to full gas-powered vehicles

As of 2023, electric vehicles (EVs) accounted for approximately 1% of the total light-duty vehicle fleet in the United States. This equates to about 3 million EVs out of an estimated 288.5 million vehicles nationwide. One can reasonably conclude that the level of enthusiasm that the current...
  13. Fixing deficient lens waterphilia

My Rivians get more rain drops on their exterior camera lenses than any other car I’ve driven. Either their placement doesn’t heed aerodynamic principles or the lenses themselves are not coated properly. I’ve tried RainX to no avail; what is the latest thinking about how to remedy this? There...
  14. Study: Less than 1% of EV owners would return to full gas-powered vehicles

EVs are really terrible for winter adventuring and some form of road trips, but pretty good for almost everything else. Most people have at least one commuter or kid-hauling car, and an EV is perfect for that.
  15. Rivian NACS Adapters begin arriving!

For those of us who have two Rivians, when will we be getting our second adapter, if at all?
  16. How to open charge port

Even when the ice is not there, often the capacitive button doesn’t work in my cars in cold temperatures. So, I’m afraid there may be no solution for you.
  17. Important For Audio After Pickup -- Perform a System Reset

Interesting. My audio system has distortion with spontaneously fixes and re-breaks without a reset. I’ll try the reset next time, thanks!
  18. Sooo About that 2024.47 Enhanced Acceleration

A lot of Rivian software changes are for just change’s sake, there is no rhyme or reason to it. It may be different, but not necessarily better. You need something to distract people from missing features and bugs.
  19. EVs Mooch Off, Do Not Pay Fair Share for Road Usage

Almost all all adults in the U.S. have cars. The US has almost 300 million vehicles. If they are subsidized, exactly who is paying to subsidize them? Billionaires and bicycle commuters? All five of them?
  20. EVs Mooch Off, Do Not Pay Fair Share for Road Usage

In my state, EVs cost an additional $225 to register (of which only $150 goes to roads). The average gas car pays about $260 in state gas tax (not counting federal). So gas drivers still pay more towards roads.
