  1. Rivian R1S First Drive from a car guy / Raptor owner

An M5 beat you in an R1T? How far did you go off the line? I can't imagine it beat you to 60mph...
  2. Pet Owners Rejoice! Sneak Peek at the excellent Canvasback 1-Piece R1S Cargo Cover Prototype

The products look great and as the owners of 2 labradors, we may look into this if/when we take delivery on our R1S. However I just had to comment on the above quoted portion... As the parents of 3 children, having gone on NUMEROUS long road trips through mountain roads in our 2007 Sequoia...
  3. Ben Sullins: Rivian R1T After 1 Year - Would I Buy it Again?

I think it's fair for people to compare functionality of a Rivian to functionality of a Tesla (not that Ben did this directly, but his baseline is definitely Tesla). So, for Carplay/Android-auto, the bench/bar to beat or match is Tesla's 1st-party functionality, which is pretty decent, even...
  4. Tesla Price Cuts Across The Board

Hahahahaha Do you actually own an ev yet? I own a Tesla, and trust me, I will ALWAYS want more range until they're offering about 600mi. Charging on road trips sucks. Always divide by two when considering how far your range will actually get you between charging stops that you don't want to...
  5. ? 2022 Q4 and Full-Year Earnings Results & Shareholder Letter: 50K production goal for 2023, ~400 Mile Range for Max Pack

What else would it be? I mean he did say it would be with the dual-motor enduro too, so there's that.
  6. First Tesla Supercharger with "Magic Dock" CCS adapter successfully charged a R1T. This is fantastic!

This is the main problem, IMO, moreso than the overuse/overcrowding problem. As someone who is a Tesla owner, and hopes to be a Rivian owner soon, I'm not sure how Tesla plans to fix this. Maybe they will be rolling out longer cables or something as they roll out the magic adapter.
  7. Tesla Price Cuts Across The Board

I appreciate the suggestion, but a lot of what we do is camping and skiing up in the mountains (Sierra, about 3-4 hours from home in SF bay area). Especially for the skiing (less frequently the camping) the 4WD and high suspension of a real SUV is very beneficial if not absolutely required.
  8. Tesla Price Cuts Across The Board

Well, no one with 2 or fewer kids &/or teens. If you have 3 or more children in your family, not to mention some dogs as well, a full sized SUV is almost the only option, assuming you don't want a mini-van. Even mini-vans aren't all that roomy often, after all they are usually built on a full...
  9. Enhanced Dual-Motor -- features different mechanical/electrical design or just a software change?

*cough* Tesla Plaid *cough, cough* I'll never understand why most people feel they need/want a Plaid vs. a standard LR+. If you're a hobbyist who tracks/races your car, OK fine. Otherwise is 0-60 in 3.1 seconds REALLY not sufficient?
  10. EV tires explanation by Engineering Explained

I missed the part where he acknowledged how much Hankook paid him for this segment, LOL. EDIT: just realized he says at the beginning "this video sponsored by Hankook" ... first time watching my sound didn't kick in until about 20 seconds in... so I literally did miss it. I write reviews online...
  11. No 800V architecture for Max Pack - confirmed

That's consistent with every EV I've experienced so far. 15-60% is optimum. After 60% or so, it gets painfully slow. It seems to be true regardless of capacity or voltage, too. I'm not sure why. I can charge my 2017 Tesla S75 to 60% in about 20~25 minutes too, and it maxes out at about...
  12. No 800V architecture for Max Pack - confirmed

Yes, but I'm curious how much wear and tear this will be on those batteries. There's no doubt that slow charging is easier on current tech batteries. (Many/not all) early Tesla owners learned the hard way that too much supercharging accelerated the degradation of your battery, resulting in...
  13. No 800V architecture for Max Pack - confirmed

This is what Tesla saw as the primary problem early on, and why from almost day one developing the supercharger network was priority #1, even over development of the vehicles themselves. It worked for Tesla. Not sure about the rollout for everyone else. I don't see Rivian making the same...
  14. No 800V architecture for Max Pack - confirmed

You own a Hummer EV, or was this an extended test drive? I'm very curious of the total time to charge that enormous battery at DCFC stations while on long road trips. Not peak rates, but average \ total time to charge from say 20%-90% or something like that. Thanks...
  15. No 800V architecture for Max Pack - confirmed

Sorry to be that guy - "kWh" is a unit of energy (like gallons of gasoline). Charging speed is in watts or kilowatts (kW) which represents how much energy can flow per time (like gallons of gas per minute from a pump). Battery capacities are in kWh. Charging rates are in kW. I'm a geek, I know.
  16. R1S big butt - is it an issue for owners

I agree. I've had several people online tell me it's a nice "proper full sized suv" when I'm asking about room/storage, etc. I see them in person fairly frequently here in the SF bay area. From the exterior, they are nowhere near the size of a "proper" full sized suv IMO. We currently own a...
  17. R1S big butt - is it an issue for owners

I'm fortunate to live where people have the money to be "first" on luxury items like cars. I see Rivians of both types, as well as Lucids, and other rare exotics, on the daily. My son's public elementary school has a mom who drops off in a limestone R1S. I've seen that one 3 times in the past...
  18. R1S big butt - is it an issue for owners

If anything, it should be even bigger, IMO. I wish they had kept the wheelbase of the R1T and made the R1S a proper full-sized SUV, with more 3rd row legroom and more behind 3rd row storage/cargo space. Maybe then we could also have the max-pack in the R1S 7-seater.
  19. R1S big butt - is it an issue for owners

What is a "two box SUV"?
  20. Tesla opens up their EV connector design to the world (North American Standard)

Just like Apple claiming they are more reliable than MS-based (or x86 Linux, BSD, etc.) computers. Well, duh!
