Not accusing you of anything but your pass times kinda sound like the daily life of a drug runner.

“Me and 3-4 heavily armed dudes go out “off-roading” to hard to reach land parcels to pick up air dropped drugs and transport them to customers. Sometimes customers come to us, so we get lots of visitors. If it’s a really big load we use a travel trailer, but only short distances to avoid law enforcement.

Sorry about my imagination.
^This is SO much more interesting than the reality of my life. I can totally see the Breaking Bad vibe you’re getting. Here’s how the reality differs slightly with similar parts in the same color.

The reality is more like “5 or 6 average to heavyset guys go out off-roading to check out what we’ve done with the land we’re developing, see the sights on trails, and picnic. Pictures of the scenery may be shared via AirDrop or Google Photos if we have Android users with us. Usually the SoCal weather is better in the winter so we gets lots of family and friends visiting us from the east coast where we grew up. We use a travel trailer when working on our land to avoid having to drive back home every night.

I appreciate your imagination and think I may start using your explanation from now on. :)

This is great! This sounds about right for me too, just replace 5-6 heavyset guys with 4 whinny kids and a good-natured wife, Ca for CO, and LR3 with 100 series land cruiser, and we are very much living the same life. Can’t wait to do it in the R1S.

what i see is a company that has already seen or forecasts slumping sales due to competition catching up but also probably more so due to a Musk created backlash towards Twitter and Tesla.

What I see, is a company big and strong enough to start squeezing the competition. Super smart, it will work, and in the end we consumers win. ?

For the record, we’re not really heavyset. I thought it worked well as a stand-in for heavily armed. They’d probably have something to say :swear: if they knew I described them this way.

VinFast.. Ouch! Ouch!!
Vinfast seems to have no one to blame but themselves, but this will not help. Only the VF9 stands any chance, because of the 3 rows.
They're going to have to adjust their pricing now... last I looked the VF9 was "starting" at $55k without the battery so add another $15K for the (110kWh) battery and now you're at $70K for the base model VF9 with 220mi range plus unknown ride quality, unknown performance and unknown build quality.

Kyle (our favorite Rivian owner) drove the VinFast VF8 at CES just a couple of days ago and rated it at 3 out of 10 overall mostly noting lack of power, noise, harshness, weird controls, etc... . Can't imagine the VF9 being much better.

If VinFast wants to sell even one car here in the states, they will have to drastically cut prices after Tesla's big cuts.

I wanted to believe they could be a player, but I have exhausted all hope. I have a deposit in and will likely keep it for now. I wouldn’t take delivery if they called to say one was available. If prices drop and they figure out how to build a car for the US market, they might have a niche customer base. Not volume like they want though.

I bought a 22' MYP earlier last year when the pricing was at the peak point (well over 70k). And today out of curiosity I ran some numbers in Caravan, mannnn oh mannnnn, barely over 40k for the trade. I was thinking about trading it in for the R1T when I get the call.

They might sell you one... but you won't be allowed to drive it without the VinFast Security Guard accompanying you, keeping a sharp on every move you make

I feel they are in for a very rude awakening once non-sponsored/non-censored reviewers get their hands on the vehicles.

It is a nonrefundable flat credit/reduction on your tax liability for that year. Which means that if you do not have a full $7500 in tax liability for that year, then you can only take the credit for as much liability that you do have, and the credit cannot be carried over into subsequent tax years. So if you only have a tax liability of say $5000, then you can only utilize $5000 of your $7500 tax credit, and the other $2500 is forfeit as you cannot receive credit for more than you owe, and the excess cannot be refunded to you.

This means that a person would need to make ~$66k a year minimum, and have no other significant tax liability deductions, in order to utilize a full $7500 tax credit in the year that they are filing.
This - plus there appears to be some confusion among some who have posted here about EV tax credits and tax refunds. The EV tax credit reduces the amount of tax you owe for the year. It has nothing to do with how much money you paid in quarterly estimated taxes or had withheld during the year. If your tax liability for the tax year exceeds the tax you paid during the year, even after applying the EV tax credit in your liability calculation, you will still owe the US Treasury more tax when you submit your return.

I don't think anybody "NEEDS" a full size SUV that can't get away with a midsize or even a compact.
Well, no one with 2 or fewer kids &/or teens. If you have 3 or more children in your family, not to mention some dogs as well, a full sized SUV is almost the only option, assuming you don't want a mini-van. Even mini-vans aren't all that roomy often, after all they are usually built on a full sized sedan chassis.
I have 3 kids, 2 dogs, and a model S. It is WAY too tight now that 2 of them are tall-ish teens, to use for a family trip longer than about 1 or 2 hours (which is quite often, 3-4x per month). It has the 3rd row jump seats too, which were great when the kids were small enough to fit there, which lasted about 2 years after they could be out of child seats and before they were too tall for it.
Our other car is a 2007 Sequoia with 3 rows. It's great, but old and a gas guzzler. And despite its size we pack it full on a regular basis. Plus we really prefer to drive electric. So, hoping for an R1S someday/maybe. The more I see them on the road though, the more I think it may be too small still for us.

Yeah, same here, though I caught it 5-6k short of peak pricing. I have an older model 3, and it may make sense to trade that one instead just because the depreciation hit won't be so bad.

I feel for the folks that are getting hosed by the Tesla pricing. I bought a Model S at a higher price years ago and Tesla did a massive price cut on it basically cost me a ton of value. Pandemic helped me sell 2 Tesla's for high value and basically paid for my entire R1T. Some times you're the hammer and sometimes you're the nail.

I appreciate the suggestion, but a lot of what we do is camping and skiing up in the mountains (Sierra, about 3-4 hours from home in SF bay area). Especially for the skiing (less frequently the camping) the 4WD and high suspension of a real SUV is very beneficial if not absolutely required.
