It has always been an option to do this, and lazy manufacturers did. I don't believe it was ever a requirement. Several years ago when Wassym/RJ first lied about it, I posted some examples of non-takeover implementations, so it's been possible for quite some time.

Hi Carlos,
My name is Nemanja, and I'm reaching out on behalf of the Rivian Customer Support Team—hope you're having a great day!
As requested, please find a detailed overview of the warranty coverage...
It is, but fortunately I've never had to pay for any of the many repairs. I asked them about it the first time when they gave me an estimate; it was clear that many people get confused by this. I've never had any other car dealer do this.
Yet another win for CarPlay; I am often shocked at how well Siri tunes into my voice and not the rest of the noise in the car. Music, podcasts, or people. I guess the reason is obvious; when you set up a new iPhone, it leads you to create a voice print so it can differentiate you from others...
Please keep talking, I need a few laughs this morning.

“Don’t like” is very different from the proven fact that he’s a liar. Same with Musk, and I love/need my Starlink.
I didn't allude, hint or imply any problem whatsoever. I did not, and will not, buy the device. You've assumed a lot which really tells us much about the veracity of your posts. You still have no idea how an integrated CP solution works though.
LOL. The Apple Music in its current generation works fantastically, and I love it. It is the only reason I ever play media out of the built-in system instead of out of my add-on CarPlay.
I have now spent quite a bit of time driving both a gen 1 and gen 2 R1S. I am shocked at how awful it handles. If I had driven the SUV instead of the truck first I would have excluded Rivian from any thought of buying one.
Absolutely none of the add-on solutions, and I have one, come close to what Rivian could possibly do with a truly integrated CarPlay. Your argument otherwise tells me you don’t understand how a properly integrated CarPlay solution works with the car. The sad irony here is that Rivian is...
Apple gives CP free to manufacturers and doesn't allow them to charge for it. Apple doesn't really want this kind of fuckery. They also severely enforce user privacy, which Rivian doesn't like at all.
I just tried a few things with Rivian "Intelligence." Complete failure. I got video, will...
This morning on a 3D sub a guy said this:
The documentation says to replace them every 500 hours approximately. The printer display itself has a maintenance section that counts the service intervals, like cars counting oil change time. And yet, people manage to avoid all education then...
