Got it resolved. Went to Home Depot and picked up a 950EV remote - and it paired on the 1st try with our gen2. Weird that the Genie GU4TG wouldn’t pair with gen2 for us, but no issues with gen1.

Has anyone found a difference between gen1 and gen2 R1’s? I was able to program our gen1 (and loaner) super easy with our genie remote, but have tried 20+ times with our gen2 only getting ‘this step timed out’.
