This is all complete guess stuff, as Rivian hasn't said anything, and probably doesn't even have a detailed plan for R1 upgrades yet.
A magic 8 ball is more likely to be right than any one of us.
However, this is the internet, so I feel obligated to make a completely speculative guess...
Silverthorne will be a good addition. I've had mixed experiences at the nearby Walmart EA. No outright failures, just crowding and some slowish charging speeds. The Chargepoint at the Target up the road is a disaster.
Centennial isn't a location I'd use, but I notice these chargers in denser...
Yup. That battery is around 2,000lbs of heavy metal thermal mass. Battery temperature changes pretty slowly in relation to ambient temperature.
Even throwing some insulation in the walls of a garage can keep the average temperature of your battery up a few degrees on a cold morning.
Those prices are stupid low. Below the cost of production. While I have no idea what the price of gas will do in any given year, I'm confident that the average price paid will be significantly higher when measured over the next decade.
Of course, oil is a global market, and there could be...
I don't have the dimensions, but I did read a long thread on the GFC forums warning against adhesive panels. It sounds like they materially add heat to the sleeping area.
Agreed.
I think Rivian hit the product-market fit sweet spot with the R1S. It's the right blend of luxury + capability + family mover to appeal to a decent sized crowd of people.
I think the sweet spot in the truck market involves less luxury and more functionality. Rivian would have a...
My advice is to take the amount of time you think it will take and double it for planning purposes.
This sounds painful if you're in a time crunch. It could be fun(ish) if you have time to enjoy the journey.
Whoever isn't driving is on navigation duty, checking Plugshare for any issues with...
I'm honestly surprised they didn't just cancel it. It sounds like VW has over-committed on capital anyways, and the premium end of the US EV market isn't exactly screaming for more competitors.
We'll probably see a change in political winds in 2028 which might help at the margins. But not...
It does sound promising. Both Lucid and Ford have focused on efficiency as the best way to drive down costs. This makes sense with the battery being the most expensive part of an EV.
I wonder how unconventional they're going with styling to hit those aero targets. Standard truck bodies are...
Wow, I know I'm not the brightest sometimes, but that's impressive even for me.
I read that like 7 times. I knew they were announcing some stuff on the 12th, and it just wasn't adding up when I looked at the calendar.
It's an interesting question, which I thought about before owning an EV. Then me and my wife both wanted to drive the EV, so now we have two EV's. 🤷♂️
I've come to the following conclusions:
1. There is no scenario I would rather drive a gas car in given a reasonable choice. I had to rent...
Agreed. This is pretty standard across the industry. The base model doesn't sell well, but gives a low "starting at" price. It lacks on features people care about, encouraging them to spend money on one trim higher. It makes people feel good about spending more.
The highest trim also may...
I don't know about your part of the country, but EA is typically competitively priced when using the membership rate here in CO.
There's also a new RAN in CO that is priced lower than the adjacent Tesla station.
EVGo is always a rip-off, and Chargepoint is all over the map. Ionna prices look...
One lesson learned from my own idiocy
Don't use any of the ones that connect to your tow hooks if you plan to do any stream crossings. Some of those other ones also don't look solid for that use case.
There's a lot of non-cash items in that EBITDA. Looking at Operating Cash Flows in yahoo (Q4 isn't there yet), they're in the ballpark of break-even on operating cash-flows for the last few quarters.
Capex is still a big chunk of change out the door on top of that though. They still have a...
This is the basis for my opinion about these alternative emergency latches being unsafe. I haven't been in a major accident with them, but I have been to war twice, and I know how the human body reacts in a high adrenaline situation.
Your body doesn't function like you think it does when...
I was looking at that closely, and there's a circular indent that looks sized for a compact spare. Hopefully.
I consider that an important feature. I don't think I'd buy another car without at least some type of compact spare.
I'm old enough and cynical enough to suspect corporate group-think is the cause until proven otherwise. But we don't really know.
I'd love to see an expert in the field break down what is really better (as the companies see it) about this. To your point, someone somewhere (Munro?) should be...
