I’m looking forward to his other videos but this video was about 2 minutes of content and 60 minutes of saying what they will cover in the other videos this week. Still enjoyable, but skippable if you don’t have the time.
6 months of EV ownership. So far only ever charged at home or at places I was staying on trips.
So my horror story is always having a full tank every morning but a very dirty windshield (no more gas station squeegee time)
I really want to see and sit in an R1S before I buy. Ideally I’d like to see color combos too (at least the one I have configured)
That said, since we are getting these at about 16k below full price I would probably just accept delivery and sell it if I didn’t like it. The risk is low when the...
I will never pay extra for autonomous driving packages until it is really autonomous. It is a scam to get customers to pay for software that is still years away. It is such a complicated problem I would not trust anyone who predicts when it will be available at this point.
That said, once it is...
I would be happy with the old base price for the trim level selected plus free upgrade to quad motor and free upgrade to the large pack. Then all options at the new price points. I’m obviously happy to just pay all the old prices too, but I am not sweating the price of the options and accessories
The email is not clear enough on what will happen if you change options after they restore your config.
So there is no reason to get angry about them “locking us in” yet. Feel free to be annoyed that they couldn’t make the email more clear though. It was silly to send it out without addressing...
I asked for dimensions and such a while ago. Here is a post with CS's response: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/is-there-any-real-advantage-to-having-the-5-seat-configuration.2205/#post-59552
More power seems crazy to me. RJ was quoted as saying that they are already having problems providing any more torque based on what the wheels can effectively transfer to the ground without slippage. Obviously there are tires that allow for that, but often times they sacrifice other...
I know lots of people are (rightfully) angry today, especially those early reservation holders who got screwed out of ~$15k by very arbitrary cut off points for who got to keep the old price and who has to pay the new prices. However, I believe this is a good move for Rivian.
My reasoning:
1...
The reason Tesla charges so much for FSD isn’t the hardware in the car at all. The extra processing power costs way less than that.
The reason they charge so much is simple: people will pay it. They will continue to raise the price until their profits from that line item decrease in aggregate...
I am not an Alexa user, but I know that Alexa can be configured to use Apple Music as the default music service.
However, I don’t know how well that will integrate with the UI in the Rivian and, more importantly, I doubt it will allow you to have a bunch of music available for use when out of...
Range hit in the cold seems to be much higher at lower speeds and on shorter trips for me. Which makes sense, if I am driving slow a higher percentage of overall power goes to warming up the battery and the passenger space. Same with short drives, a higher percentage of overall use is the...
If you get in an accident involving a pedestrian and they find out you tampered with a pedestrian warning system, good luck to you.
I want a silent option as much as you, but I have not made my ID4's jetson spaceship noise quieter for the same reason.
I personally doubt any significant amount of battery drain is due to the keyless entry systems. The energy needed to keep Bluetooth or NFC going is tiny compared to the energy needed to move a ~7k lb vehicle. I am guessing this is battery management or something along those lines. Gear guard is...
This is not true on the max pack for the R1S requiring the 5 seat config. Customer service told me all battery pack options will be available in both seating configurations.
Summary: minor fit problems with some plastic trim on the exterior. 1 alignment issue with the door that I thought was actually bad. No interior problems at all. Impressed with paint quality.
All in all better than I would have expected
To go back to the question in the subject of the thread, regardless of the specific details, the average American spends close to 300 hours a year driving. If technology had the ability to replace 300 hours a year of any type of labor with alternative activities, all while increasing safety and...
For moving long distances between cities, something like a train will likely be more efficient, because the fact that it isn't door to door is less of a problem because the "last mile" is a much smaller percentage of the trip. But for daily city traffic the last mile inconvenience of not being...
I think people are underestimating the impact of a fleet of self driving, fully autonomous vehicles.
1. These vehicles don't HAVE to have only one passenger at a time, although that is what people often envision. They could be small vans that seat ~10 people. The big annoyance with public...
