Do you have any idea how many years it takes to turn thoughts into reality here? We’ve watched chargers take more than 12 months to deploy.
A legislative bill with money attached to it is so much a fantasy for us - this money might turn into chargers the public can use come 2025….
you are quoting charin, which is a lobbying firm for CCS.
In their stats - Charin glosses over the fact there is CCS1 standard in NA and CCS2 in Europe - and they both aren’t compatible.
Charin is not an unbiased source, and is not aligned with the EV industry or consumers. Charin only cares...
There is no global charging standard. China has their own plug. Europe has their own unique CCS plug that is not the same as CCS1 that is found in USA.
Even in the market CCS1 is supposed to be the standard in, the plug doesn’t dominant. Far more 250kW Superchargers than 250kW+ CCS chargers...
The reason EVGo is making these announcements is because of their stock price.
ChargePoint and EVGo stock is down 12%.
EVGo and GM have a big contract together - so that’s probably more complicated now.
EVGo has slow NACS chargers - not even 150kW. EA, ChargePoint, and Evgo are going to have...
I have a disfigured hand, and can only use one hand. I struggle to use CCS and can’t always get the plug to disconnect.
for me, CCS is about usability. I can easily use a Supercharger.
Buffalo NY can manufacture like 25k stalls/yr.
I have more faith in Tesla making functioning Superchargers than all the rest making CCS.
Just look at the data

CCS was never expanding at a pace that could keep up with CCS automobile sales, if every automobile...
I suspect the reason both Ford and GM have to wait until 2024 for adapters is because there is more to it than just making an adapter. The engineering teams have to be working on confirming the specifics and making changes where necessary.
Is anyone else just realizing that at this point - you could sarcastically say that the only people pushing CCS still is ChargePoint, the US government and Electrify America for a bunch of foreign CCS vehicles?
Like, I know that ignores Rivian entirely here, but…..it does feel funny to say...
There are people who fit this mold - they live in an area and never have to leave it. Big cities have all the amenities they need. But in places like the midwest or even Florida - if you want to see a NBA game you gotta drive across the state. It depends on the user, right?
Some people live...
Bloomberg is writing that this move all but assures NACS will become the standard.
ChargePoint stock is down 4% after hours (down 1.75% during the day). EVGo stock is down 5% after hours.
I agree the market is bigger - but at this point the 2 largest EV makers in USA - Tesla/Ford both are on NACS. GM is now on NACS. The only North American automotive brand still on CCS is Stellantis….who doesn’t even make an EV yet.
Kia, Hyundai, VW - they all sell vehicles internationally - and...
Absolutely. I totally agree that legacy auto and the SAE has fumbled CCS-1 - and I even suspect that they did it intentionally.
I don’t believe legacy auto companies, originally, bought into the EV concept. I think they were very “Toyota” about it - entrenched industries married to the hip with...
Don’t forget a little company known as Nissan. They refused CCS, too.
It isn’t that I prefer Tesla. It’s majority rule. It’s momentum > reinventing the wheel. It’s I am sick and tired of this crappy charging system (CCS) holding the entire EV movement back.
If SAE can make a better CCS plug -...
It’s a plug problem, too.
I’m so over CCS. I am done defending it. Everyone needs to get on the same page - NACS plug in a corner or on the front/rear, boom - done.
SAE ignored Tesla. SAE is legacy automotive. Tesla was never going to influence the design or spec of CCS because they were blocked from it.
SAE ignored Tesla until it looked like the Model S would really be a thing (and Tesla wasn’t going to bankrupt themselves before deliveries started). Once...
CCS is literally a user hostile solution. It is the opposite of ADA compliant. This isn’t a pro-Tesla argument. This is a basic usability topic where able people are unable to use the equipment. In Canada and the midwest - the CCS cables can get frozen to the vehicles! In Florda - the elderly...
I am with you. Tesla did their own thing. Tesla, like Apple, did not open up their design - they kept it proprietary.
CCS was designed by a committee and meant to be universally adopted. It failed to be universally adopted - Nissan would use Chademo. It failed to provide a better user...
