To be fair to Rivian, there is simply no way to know how many pre-order holders will bail. I think it will only get harder to predict with so many people having pre-orders for the other EV trucks basically taking the approach of going with whichever one they can get their hands on first.
Had my used 2016 Model S 2+ years. So far just a computer screen glitch that Tesla came to my house to fix. My only real beef is I took mine in for a 2 year checkup to get some things done recommended in the manual and it took 2 days. Minor annoyance for something Ford would knock out sane...
Governments, specifically those of Canada and the US are going to have some tough decisions to make on lithium mining. Seems more than a little hypocritical to push for EVs but require other countries to bare the burden of the environmental impact of mining of the requisite metals.
Agreed. Only reason I’m interested is because of the size, specifically interior cabin size for a family of 5. I actually prefer the smaller bed as I will primarily just use it for hauling kids crap and minor household repairs / yard work. As long as the Rivian is big enough for short trips...
If I wanted to put a solar panel over the bed, I’d there a way to connect the inverter to charge the battery without using the charge port? Basically curious if you could make that system work without having to manually plug / unplug every time you go for a drive.
The question is whether that is a “core” component or differentiator of their product. Every company outsources or licenses various portions of their business, specifically when they aren’t value add. There’s a reason every Fortune 500 company doesn’t have their own home grown OS for their IT...
Why don’t more companies just use CarPlay and dump their own systems that are redundant? I’m not sure what exactly the licensing cost is but surely it’s cheaper than building your own. Even if it isn’t then make it an option and pass on the cost to the customers who want it?
There are rumors the extended range battery really gets closer to 400 miles in range. Anyone heard if the regular battery gets a similar boost? If the regular battery gets anywhere close to the Rivian large pack then a base Lariat is $10k less but without several features unique to the R1T.
I wonder how transparent they will be with delivery windows, like will lariats and platinums go first? What about standard vs extended range? If it’s a similar window, I think I will stick with my R1T.
They specifically mention Rivian but I’d be interested in how they modify it. Would it still work with the existing automated tonneau system? Rather than adding extra batteries in the bed, would it just charge directly to the existing batteries? It’s a great idea, even if it’s just 5-10...
