In Florida the windshield can't be tinted. This is why I went with the Air 80 - it is so clear it appears to not be tinted. But, it really cuts the glare and has high heat rejection.
I went with the following tints:
Llumar Pinnacle 30 on the two front windows
Llumar Pinnacle 50 on all other side windows
Llumar Air80 on windshield and back window
The windshield appears clear.
The overall result is exactly what I wanted. Yes, a darker windshield would be nice, but I...
I recently tinted my R1S windshield with Llumar AIR80. Full writeup here:
I have not conducted a scientific test, but the car feels much cooler.
The tint appears totally clear. No issues at night. I have a few pairs of polarized glasses from different companies, there is a slight...
I'm going to wrapping the outside of both sections of the glass roof on my LA Silver R1S with a silver metallic wrap. I had a sunshade for a few weeks, but even with the sunshade the heat radiating from the glass roof is high. I am hoping the silver wrap reflects (rather than absorbs) heat...
Before tinting the windows on my Rivian R1S I visited a few of the top referred shops in Miami. I ultimately decided on High End Detail, owner operated by Josue Recinos. High End Detail did a great job on my R1S.
I went with Llumar Pinnacle 30 on the front windows, Pinnacle 50 on all...
I just called to add the compact spare to my R1S. It is scheduled for mobile installation in 2 weeks. I asked for the $450 pre-order pricing (my R1S qualifies) and the agent said "yes, this is $450 plus tax for you).
Once my spare is installed, I will be guaranteed to never need to use it. Phew.
Got my A2Z adapter in. This morning I plugged in and charged with no issues.
Cost was $0.54 per kWh. Yikes! For reference, my 24/7 home rate is $0.12 per kWh.
I think this will turn out to be a genius move by EM.
The 500 people fired today are tops in the EV charging industry. If as little as two of those 500 take their experience and connections to start new EV charging networks, there may finally be competitors to the Tesla Supercharger network...
With the Tesla universal charger (I don't have one) and wallbox pulsar plus (I have had one for 3 years) you can network multiple chargers to one circuit and they will manage balancing between themselves on that circuit.
I installed 1 Wallbox Pulsar Plus (https://amzn.to/3wpIgY1) 3 years ago with two EVs - I have had zero issues with the Wallbox. My circuit is limited to 208v 32 amps. I am about to install a second Pulsar Plus, and they will connect together on the same 32 amp circuit and essentially power share...

This is probably a big mistake. I know a guy who knows a guy who works on the Supercharger team in Florida. He and almost everyone on his team spent their careers as engineers at the incumbent Florida power companies, so they knew how to navigate the politics of everything from power capacity...
I have the R1S and Model X Plaid. As long as you don't need to cargo space and the off-roading capability of the R1S, the MX Plaid is tough to beat. It just drives so well, the performance is mind boggling, the supercharger network (including Gen 1 & 2 that Rivian can't use) is amazing, and it's...
I see the R1S as a very nice truck-like SUV. It is not in the luxury SUV category.
Rivian should make a soccer mom/dad R1S with no air suspension, RWD, and an actual luxury interior for $70k. The current R1S with its extreme off-roading capabilities is too niche to sell at volume.
Don't get...
This is a super annoying new bug. With driver+ engaged on straight and level and no acceleration, the brake constantly moves 1/8 inch back and forth making a clicking noise. Rivian devs if you are reading this please fix this ASAP.
I have a 2023 MX Plaid, and recently traded a 2023 R1S Quad for a 2024 R1S Quad. The X Plaid is a superior car, if you do zero off roading, 6 seats is enough, and the storage of the X is enough for you. If you want more room and 1 more seat, or you do any off roading, then the R1S wins. They are...
