Great write up.
I have a 2023 Model X Plaid, and I'm on my second R1S, a 2024 R1S Quad. If I had to chose one of them, I would pick the R1S, solely due to utility and space. But, I would hate to give up the MXP because it drives so well and the performance is just phenomenal.
If the MXP had...
2024 R1S Quad.
I experienced my first real UI bug this morning. I tried to use the touchscreen to turn on the dome lights, and the button did not work. Alexa was able to turn on and turn of the lights, but the UI screen would not work. Tapping the dome light did nothing to turn the lights on...
I got the $450 preorder priced spare installed in my 2024 R1S via mobile service about a month ago.
I bought the spare to guarantee I will never get a flat tire.
It's the glass itself that gets blazing hot, which is why tint on the inside does not help.
The glass is radiating the heat to the interior of the cabin, even though the IR is being blocked by the glass.
I think a white or silver exterior wrap would help a lot. A cover with an air gap would be...
If you put your foot behind the brake pedal while this is happening you can feel the brake pedal being forced in and out. I have no idea why this would happen on straight and level cruise control mode. It must be a bug.
I drove about 20 miles with Quad R1S Gen 1 new update. It seems throttle mapping is improved, but a little less aggressive in all purpose mode. The AC controls are much improved. It seems the suspension is a little better in all purpose mode - but I think that a lot of people confuse bouncy...
The Llumar AIR80 does not rainbow with polarized lenses, but it does result in funky color reflections off some windows and mirrors - for example, it makes some side view mirrors (from other cars) appear green or purple (when wearing polarized lenses).
Is this as simple as:
(1) VW is over dependent on Bosch as a supplier
(2) Rivian developed an in-house electronic architecture, competitive to Bosch
(3) VW wants leverage against Bosch for pricing, or wants to control its electronic architecture altogether going forward
(4) Rivian needs cash...
This is amazing news!
But, very vague and I wish we had details. $5 billion is about the amount Rivian needs to build the Georgia plant, so perhaps this will be a JV to build the R2 and Scout at the GA plant on the same platform, with the Scout for the international market and R2 for the...
I've seen a few interviews with Rivian personnel. It seems that the changes to the suspension involve a few part changes that seem to have made a big difference.
I'm looking forward to seeing someone get a Gen 2 on a lift next to a Gen 1 so the differences can be itemized.
I think it is now clear that Rivian's path to survival is to be acquired. There is a path to break even, but not really a path to profitability and volume manufacturing without $5-$7 billion in new capital. Perhaps Nissan, so that Nissan can compete with TRD?
Circling back to this thread now that the refresh has been announced and pricing and voucher situation is now well understood.
I'm pretty happy with the trade and the deal I got for the 2024 R1S Quad. I think the refresh is a better vehicle by far, but for the price I would have had to pay for...
My only ask is a simple ask - be able to cast or run video apps from the rear screen while in motion.
It appears everything they showed in this demo was front screen while parked. How many people are sitting in their car watching the front screen vs. driving with kids in the back who could...
