Same. Here in NC, our previous option was to drive to Richmond, VA, or to Atlanta, GA, for Rivian service. Now, they have a service center in Knightdale, NC (about 25 minutes from me) and another they're opening, I think, in Greensboro (about 1.5 hours from me). There's also one in Charlotte, NC...
I can't even imagine why that would even be something someone would want to begin with. But Elon is an egomaniac, so maybe it made sense in his mind. Empty cars traveling cross country seems like a waste of efficiency.
I get what you're saying, but I see it differently. If I'm developing a next-gen autonomous system that is supposed to be going up against the existing competition, I wouldn't be showing it TO THE PUBLIC in a state that is far inferior to what's already available. I wouldn't be comfortable...
Exactly. China doesn’t need data from your car to build a profile of where you live or what places you visit. Your smartphone already does that with location data on a much more precise level.
I mean, I get that mkhuffman is skeptical of what access China would have with a car, but the car is...
I bet his phone, computer, TV, appliances, furniture, electronic gadgets, tools, and a host of other things are made in China, too :CWL:
You can't escape this global economy.
Volvo EX60 debuts Jan 21st with 400mi EPA range and 400kw peak charging

Yeah, when I purchased my first Model 3 back in 2021 (and we still had the Outback), the insurance went from $700 to $900. Then, when we replaced the Outback with a Model Y, it jumped to $1,250. And with my current Model 3, we're currently sitting at $1,445.
It was going to be $1,600 with...
I can't disagree with any of this. My only two downsides to EV ownership have been:
1) Vehicle registration. In NC, annual vehicle registration for a vehicle is $46.65. You have to pay an additional $214.50 for an EV. So that's $260 x two vehicles a year for us
2) Insurance. When we had a 2017...
I actually had an instance this morning where it dodged roadkill. There was a dead squirrel right dead-center in the middle of my lane (two-lane back road, one lane going each way). There were no cars behind me and no cars coming in the opposite direction. It veered left, crossed the double...
I get in my EV and just “go.” 300+ miles with R2 or 400 miles with an iX3 will suit us just fine. We are an all-EV household having put a combined 130,000 miles across three EVs:
2021 Model 3 SR+ — 50,000 miles (sold 2024)
2023 Model Y — 47,106 miles currently (bought January 2023)
2024 Model...
Of course, there's a reason -- the hardware isn't ready or validated yet. You can't install hardware that doesn't exist or hasn't been manufactured yet in a production-ready capability.
And remember, the self-driving test drives that occurred last month (using modified R1s) were conducted on...
How the heck do you expect to get around a cyclist on a two-lane back road (one lane going each way)? Run them over? :CWL:
Of course, you have to ease across the double yellow to pass them. I do the same when there's a mail truck stopped putting mail into a roadside mailbox. I also cross the...
That’s my hope. Tesla’s FSD on HW4 vehicles is so good at this point that I expect nothing less going forward. The damn thing pulls out of my garage, and takes me anywhere I went to go and parks for me at my destination (curbside or in a parking spot). The other day, an ambulance came flying up...
I’ve driven in those conditions and at night with none of those issues. I will note, however, that HW3 vehicles are highly more prone to phantom braking, whereas I have had any such issues with my HW4 vehicle.
I've had my Model 3 (Hardware 4) driving me around for 68% of my driving in the past month, since I got the FSD 14.2.x trial in late November. My wife will have none of it. She shakes her head, even though this thing has been right on the money, stopping at stop signs/stop lights, going through...
Do we all have the same wife? :CWL: My wife has never used cruise control on ANY vehicle, because her mom never trusted it. And then she complains about her leg cramping during long trips.
