  1. Winter Is Coming…

I've resigned to use the Pirelli AT's for one winter and cross my fingers Michelin or Bridgetone releases an XL snow tire in 60 series. Short of that, maybe the 65 series BLIZZAK LT. I could be wrong but for a winter tire, maybe there's not as much downside to using the 65 choices (other than...
  2. Winter Is Coming…

@DTown3011 I believe you. Tire stores annoyingly won't install them. I can keep making calls down the list of smaller shops near me though before I give up. The Rivian support person claimed the R1S was 8k lbs so needed the 116's (I didn't go into the calculation detail, he admitted some had...
  3. Winter Is Coming…

I phoned Michelin in the remote hope they'd tell me about an upcoming Ice-X 2 116 but got nothing. I wish Rivian had kept using 115's. It seems to have trapped current owners into extremely limited tire options.
  4. Winter Is Coming…

Zero luck with DiscountTire - They suggested using the 65's. Maybe I'll go a season with the Defender LTX's and hope Ice-X 116 arrives before next winter. I'd prefer to have summer/winter tires same outside diameter.
  5. Winter Is Coming…

Michelin Search by Size It only shows the Defender LTX and X LT (at least for me). Anyone have a link to an X-Ice with 116 rating ? I can't explain any stock tires being 115, only that when I search by vehicle, it shows no Michelin snow tires for that size. Costco wouldn't install the all...
  6. Advice for winter tires?

No, but the first shop I tried wouldn't install them. I know I could probably dig a bit deeper for someone willing to do it. It seems like such a marginal difference.
  7. New Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 coming soon

Now for Winter Tires: Is there a similar advantage to getting 275/60/20's for winter tires ? Same issues exist there. The Michelin Ice-X is my go-to winter tire but like the Defender LTX, it doesn't have sufficient weight rating. There are logs of 65/20 options that do but appear aimed at...
  8. Advice for winter tires?

I hope Michelin Updates the Ice-X to a higher load rating as they just did for the LTX all season tire. I know the 60 series Defenders have better range and price than the 65 options. Is the same true for winter tires ? There are plenty of 65 series 20 tires available. Besides the extra...
  9. Winter Is Coming…

I like them too but the current model only supports a load of 115 and the R1S at least needs 116. My local tire center wouldn't install them. The 65R20's do. I suppose they're more truck constructed so likely heavier and costlier
  10. New Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 coming soon

I wish they had a winter version. Assuming the improvements are more about load and wear vs ice performance. Maybe the quad drive is so amazing on Ice I don't need winter tires but I'm conditioned to using them. I'll take any advantage I can hitting a patch of ice.
  11. Cabin Air Filter Replacement ...wildfire smoke

I could smell smoke inside our new R1S this past week. The NW is covered in smoke. Any hope of upgrading the Rivian filter to a higher MERV rated one ? A car in this price range should have high air quality.
  12. California FS: 20" Pirelli Scorpion AT tires- 200 miles

I made the same call in order to have more tire options. Not sure it'll work out that way in the end (21" might expand available tires) but at least at the tire store, there seemed to be more choices with 20, granted you have a set of four tires you have to sell (I haven't yet as the Michelin...
  13. New Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 coming soon

The 275/60/20 MS2, DiscountTire told me Oct 2023. Which size did they tell you 7/2024 ? Sounds a long way off.
  14. New Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 coming soon

Apparently the current defenders LTX in 275/60/20 are heavier construction (and more expensive) tire thus the higher weight rating. I waited while one shop double checked with Michelin on the S2 availability and got confirmation that Oct 2023 is still the date. Right in time for winter. I...
  15. New Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 coming soon

Defender LTX M/S2 tires are available now in smaller sizes. I'll call Monday to see if there's a chance for an earlier delivery.
  16. Moving from 21" to 20" tires (no offroad) recommendations

I have the 20's. I was unable to mount 275/60 Defender as the existing tires don't have sufficient weight rating (till the S2 version goes on sale in Oct 2023). the 275/65's are substantially more expensive but will work now. Same difficulty I found with winter tires. Not tons of properly weight...
  17. New Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 coming soon

I just bought the current Defender 275/60's at Costco. After waiting a LONG time for them install the new Defenders, they discovered the 60's had an insufficient weight rating. The 65's are ok but substantially more expensive. Maybe I'll just leave the AT's on through winter when the Defender...
  18. R1T 20" AT Wheel Weight, Specs, Offset, Bolt Pattern, Construction

@Mark_AZR1T Among the 20 OEM wheels, aside from cosmetics, any have a weight or construction advantage ? There was some back and forth on the previous page over the brights/darks being a lower grade of forging. Not sure the weight differences. If you're aiming closer to ~2500/4 wheels. Any...
  19. What 20" summer tire to pair with winter tire rotation

I'll keep an eye out. I noticed last night that eBay's "fit" check includes 18mm offset wheels which is odd. They fit but it should at least tell you it's not the stock 48mm. Did you find the ram 2363 wheels on craigslist ? I'm still holding out hope someone creates one before Nov. Our winter...
  20. What 20" summer tire to pair with winter tire rotation

There's a ton of 21" wheels for sale. That's not a bad option. I bought 20's for the improved tire options but it wasn't cheap and I don't need the AT tires it comes with. It gets icy in town, I'll take every winter advantage I can get. I thought perhaps if I had winter wheels/tires then maybe...
