RJ and the IL Governor are there.
Edit: An event to note the start of R2 production in IL. No new info for customers.
Recent VIN numbers at the factory were spotted in the event per this other thread...
Same. Compute has mattered a lot up until now. Puts people like me who are leaning towards wanting more autonomy in a bit of a pickle as buying Gen 2 is like saying "this time is different" without any software released.
Tesla's already planning out two generations ahead for compute with AI5...
This feels like something where someone could 3D print a handle lever too. Not justifying the design decision. Just looking at the way everything comes apart and it seems like there could be a cheap aftermarket option.
I've seen some deals for some lithium ion inflators that work surprisingly well. Probably good enough for a spare tire at least.
I believe even Costco carries some that are Fanttik brand every now and then. Those go on sale/clearance too.
Most people recommended something else besides the Rivian Wall Charger. It's overpriced too.
Here's the recent thread for suggestions: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/are-there-alternatives-to-rivian-level2-charger.58619/
$1k for the AT upgrade doesn't seem like a bad option for those of us who don't want 21". Then I don't have to flip the 21". Then dump the ATs for All Seasons at the first opportunity.

You can price it out with the configurator including options. No ability to submit it though, but it's a good start!
Edit: Per comments below, you will need to add $1,495 destination fee and applicable state tax to get your final total.
You're welcome to believe that, but it’s still not mandatory for everyone else. That’s the whole point of living in a free country like the USA. We have the freedom to make our own decisions.
There is no in-house lidar deal. Just something they are exploring as a possibility.
There aren't a lot of clear off-the-shelf options for this exact lidar at this price point. Hard to even figure out the exact manufacturer. There's a new one from a company called Innoviz that has a VW...
RJ has said both late 2026 and early 2027. So maybe implies very limited LiDAR availability in 2026 on R2.
Here's the source of the 2027 RJ comments in the Q4 2025 Earnings call: https://www.fool.com/earnings/call-transcripts/2026/02/13/rivian-rivn-q4-2025-earnings-call-transcript/
We're hitting the point where these vehicles are pretty capable. You just have to decide if you will be happy with the car you are buying at the time you are buying it. Are you happy with the charging, range, interior, etc? Ignore any future promises that something is coming like a software...
Software updates coming out over the next year from Rivian are basically what they wanted. There was a recent Rivian Autonomy Day event that went over all the new software. It's all being released during the R2 launch period over the next year.
VW doesn't have any connection with Rivian for...
I might be slightly off on the comparison due to the vertical dimensions of the CR-V rear cargo area being taller than the R2. CR-V may have more vertical cargo area as R2 slopes down and rounds over at the very back. R2 is still very good and usable due to its' box shape.
