I've seen some deals for some lithium ion inflators that work surprisingly well. Probably good enough for a spare tire at least. I believe even Costco carries some that are Fanttik brand every now and then. Those go on sale/clearance too.

I might be slightly off on the comparison due to the vertical dimensions of the CR-V rear cargo area being taller than the R2. CR-V may have more vertical cargo area as R2 slopes down and rounds over at the very back. R2 is still very good and usable due to its' box shape.
