You started it with being the only person I have see on here speculate (of which you complain about others doing) that in addition to the know RAP1/Lidar update that there would be other changes (potentially including battery changes).
Take your own advice and stop speculating.
The ironic...
Good to see, what does it mean by “ blocks smaller and emerging automakers from direct sales” - is this manufacturers that come after Lucid and Rivian?
Is there a mistake in the comparison page for R2 on the Rivian website? It says under Premium 20” all season wheels are standard and 21” all season wheels are optional. It then shows the Performance wheel and the square dot wheel from the standard (which is all terrain).
I thought the Premium...
Yes we will. We can all spread FUD - whom is to say within two years of you getting your shiny new R2 with Lisa’s and RAP1 that RAP2 and 800v system doesn’t come out. I don’t believe it will but easy to spread FUD and make wild unsubstantiated claims.
Why would Rivian in all the years the R2...
They are not going to change the battery after just six months of sales. They have had two years since the reveal in 2024 (and years before that) to get the R2 at the level they wanted it. I believe it will only be Gen 3 ADAS related items not bring else (infotainment chip, AI assistant, motors...
It is interesting that the torque only goes up 70lbft and yet the time drops 1 full second. Way more of a drop for such a small increase in torque compared to RWD vs Premium.
Gen 3 for autonomy only. Everything else from hardware, UX, AI assistant etc stays the same. For ADAS it goes from hands free to potential at some undetermined point eyes free and full point to point as opposed to intersection to intersection. Just want to be clear and not overstate the changes...
Good summary and it makes perfect sense to do their own chip and cut out the middle man (Nvidia who have a 70% profit margin). Simplifies supply chain too as they can deal direct with the chip manufacturer.
There are over 100,000 R1 owners and a lot will have reservations in the R2. Therefore some existing R1 owners will miss out on what they think is due to them - a first shot at the R2.
Also their criteria is not arbitrary but they want to minimize build variations since two color options would...
The tri R1 has a bigger bump. Cost of the motor is several thousands, development cost spread across a limited number of vehicles sold and I would assume the interior gets some upgrades like the Ascent trim in R1.
The Performance R2 is the ideal path to R3X? Wouldn’t that be the tri or RAD R2 that comes out in 2027 or 2028?
Glad you had a good time and any other insights you have would be appreciated.
