  1. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Most experts are seeing EV Winter as the sales for any EVs falling significantly. Regardless of how good the iX3 is, the demand, aside from the very initial surge, will fall off rather quickly in this country. If BMW sticks to their conventional options pricing, the starting price is...
  2. What are Rivian's plans to handle service and support once production ramps up? R2, R3 etc.

My recollection is that if you are an early VIN Model 3 owner, there were more issues and the service center was able to handle the early few. It didn't help that there was a physical recall (not SW update) on a rear suspension issue early on. About 6 months into the Model 3 deliveries, the...
  3. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Agree. That said. maybe the Neue Klasse vehicles will have simpler option package and be more price competitive, at least to start with. There is so much riding on the new platform for BMW that they cannot risk failure in the market place by their usual pricing strategy....maybe :)
  4. R2 Assembly Production Rate & Time Per Vehicle + Annual Capacity (and vs. R1)

The build time difference is easily explained with the fact that there are less steps to build R2 over R1. The very simple fact that body on frame requires more steps than an unitized body where there is no mating between the frame and the body. Additionally, R2 is much less contents than R1...
  5. R1S - Underrated Driver's Car (Rivian Driving Dynamics Appreciation Thread)

The thing that help conceal the lack of steering feedback is what you feel in the seat. Rivian does transition directions better than most so one immediately feel the lateral forces in the seat of the pants. This coupled with some feedback from the steering wheel helps the driver take notice...
  6. R1S - Underrated Driver's Car (Rivian Driving Dynamics Appreciation Thread)

R1S Quad gen 1: Steering is too light and has no real feedback (i.e., variable steering weight as a function of cornering forces, including tire behavior) as it is an electronic power steering (vs hydraulic). I have over 31K miles on the clock so plenty of driving time in all different drive...
  7. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

No matter how great the professional reviews are, any completely new vehicle will have teething issues in the early production run. No amount of testing can address all the potential issues. So if anyone is interested, recommend waiting a year or two before plunging in (btw, same goes for R2)...
  8. R1S - Owner Feedback Please - Do you recommend buying the R1S?

I am retired in south OC and have owned R1S since August 2023. The vehicle now has 31K miles or so. The question you need to ask yourself is what is your expectation of this vehicle and what do you think you are getting. The Rivian vehicles today are built on a body on a truck frame with air...
  9. Rivian R1S Gen 1. 12 V Battery Replacement. Again!

The HV battery is supposed to keep the 12V battery charged. So the problem may be more upstream that caused the 2nd battery failure due to consistent low charge. Rather than just have the battery changed, I would have Rivian take a look at the HV to 12V charging system. As a side note, my...
  10. 12-Month review: I can't recommend the R1S for most people

Interesting thing about what we own or buy into. Whenever anyone criticize anything about it, they react as though we called their kid ugly or stupid. The OP, @ATLRivvy, provided a honest view and his experience. Take it or leave it. If your experience is different, say that and stop there...
  11. Rivian headlights at night in snowstorm = zero visibility

Tell us this when your family member is stuck somewhere or when kids need to be picked up....
  12. 2% SoC loss overnight - what should I look for?

Wasn't clear on your write up so to be rhetorical, if in the garage don't lock the vehicle and make sure your phone/key fob/key card are not within the proximity of the vehicle. The vehicle should goto sleep. If not, contact one of the service center nearby.
  13. R2 in snow & cold temperature testing

It's not a feature, per sa, it's a safety item. The Mach-e and R1 have different configuration of lights and it's also not a question of enough snow but how long one drives in the snow and how wet the snow, as a flake/size, is. As the snow liquefy and the temperature is freezing, then there...
  14. Time for mudflaps

When set to standard height, All Purpose, Intermediate damping on my 23 R1S w/22" wheels, on freeway at 75~80 mph, before the mud flaps, about 2.1 miles/Wh. After mud flaps 1.8~1.9 miles/Wh. Drop to low suspension, improves to 1.9~1.95 (never gets to 2 miles/Wh on flat topology). In Sports...
  15. Time for mudflaps

I have those installed on my R1S for almost a year and just a heads up, there is efficiency hit. Need to use low or lowest to minimize range hit from the rear mudflaps.
  16. GM will cut thousands of jobs in Michigan, Tennessee and Ohio - "In response to slower near-term EV adoption and an evolving regulatory environment"

Agree. The expiration of EV incentives pulled so much demand forward that EV sales in October was down well over 75% YOY. The industry is expecting the EV sales to normalize by the end of 26Q1~26Q2. GM is pausing given their existing inventory levels of cells and EVs. I'm guessing that since...
  17. R1S Range Drop in Cold Weather

If it's new to you, it can be very surprising. Just need to plan differently in the cold climate. https://www.recurrentauto.com/research/winter-ev-range-loss
  18. "Vehicle Offline" showing in app

Comparisons aside, I find that Rivian software is not what it should be. There are too many little inconsistencies. They'll fix somethings and new issues pop up. I always do a hard reboot after every firmware update.
  19. Rivian VW JV: cold weather test in Q1 2026 to unlock $1B investment. JV tech could extend to combustion cars

According to the Automotive News, VW is pausing additional investments. Don't know if it affects the new tranche of Rivian investment and/or JV is at risk. "VW said to delay investments amid financial uncertainty; Audi U.S. production at risk Volkswagen Group’s supervisory board has...
  20. HVB battery capacity - is there any way to determine its current capacity?

Maybe a different paradigm is needed. If you think about an EV more of a laptop with wheels than a vehicle with computer on board, one can get to needing to replace every few years (4~6 yrs). An upgrade cycle, as it were. Most of us do this already with our computing devices and smartphones...
