  1. Battery pack warning!!

You either have a faulty BMS, a critical failure of the software, or a faulty battery temperature regulating valve that is not opening/closing properly. I would add a bad thermocouple, except it should have multiple ones for redundancy.
  2. 20" Inch Winter tire highlight: Sailun Terramax R/T

To be clear, that's not a winter tire, it's a rugged terrain tire for year-round use. The three-peak snowflake rating does not make it a winter tire (except from a legal perspective in some jurisdictions). If you studded it, then you could call it a studded winter tire. But I've found studless...
  3. Electrify America PlugShare Trends by Region: Sept 1 Update

I agree. Somehow I got it in my head that the RAN DCFC was open to other EVs that had compatible CCS protocols. Does Rivian use a different CCS protocol or why can't non-Rivian (with CCS ports) charge there? When Superchargers were exclusive to Tesla it was due to the protocols being...
  4. Electrify America PlugShare Trends by Region: Sept 1 Update

Let's not forget, the graphs you are so generously publishing only depict the state of affairs of one charging network, for one kind of charging port, not all EV's. Less than half of all EVs in America have a CCS charge port, most have NACS. Likewise, Kyle's video shows a long line of EV's...
  5. Electrify America PlugShare Trends by Region: Sept 1 Update

What percent of RAN stations are open to other brands with CCS charge ports? Also, can a Tesla use a RAN station that's open to other brands if it has a CCS adapter?
  6. Cybertruck Laugh of the Day [⚠️ WARNING: NO POLITICS; MEMBERS BANNED]

The darker edges around the door is caused by heat discoloration of the metal. The inner stainless steel door panels are laser welded to the outer stainless steel door panel all the way around the perimeter. Essentially, the doors are made of a stainless-steel sandwich, laser welded together...
  7. EV Home Charging Recommendations

Another vote for hard-wired. NEMA 14-50 plugs are just one more potential problem and require GFCI breakers that can cause problems with Mobile Connectors (because they already have a GFCI in-built). Two GFCIs is not a good thing. Hardwire is good.
  8. Made a four-tire air-down/air-up kit for the Rivian

I have a set of the Stauns (15-55 psi) deflators, and the closest I can get them is 2 psi. after much fooling around. Worse, it's difficult to get them to hold their setting, mine keep loosening up from screwing them on/off the valve stems. I wouldn't buy them again, they seem very inconsistent...
  9. My Rivian is in the shop - I rented a Hummer EV for a month and hate it

Good news indeed! Were they able to do paintless dent repair on the hail damage? I'm curious what the bill was. I'm sure insurance will cover all except for the deductible but I'm always amazed by how much it costs to fix these modern cars.
  10. Made a four-tire air-down/air-up kit for the Rivian

Either way will work, I was just saying it would be a simpler, cleaner install, and cost less, to replace the male fitting on the hose manifold with a 90-degree elbow and a female fitting.
  11. Restrooms @ charging stations

It gives me hope to see someone celebrating the positive, more of a "glass half-full" perspective than those whose glass is always half empty. If EVs are to replace ICE the solution has to come from private companies, the government cannot do things this big anymore. There simply isn't enough...
  12. Restrooms @ charging stations

Incorrect. I've been using Tesla Superchargers for over 6 years and there is nothing mechanical in the way of simply unhooking the charge handle from the Supercharger and inserting it into the open charge port on my car. No waiting, no fuss. It literally takes 5 seconds, every single time. I...
  13. Made a four-tire air-down/air-up kit for the Rivian

You shouldn't need an extension hose to use the MorrFlate inflation system on a Rivian. I would probably just hard plumb a female air fitting onto the MorrFlate manifold (remove the male fitting). A 90 degree elbow would allow the manifold to hang down off the male fitting on the Rivian, rather...
  14. Restrooms @ charging stations

You know you don't have to stand there and hold the handle, like you do with a gas nozzle? It only takes 5 seconds to plug in, you're not going to get wet. If it's raining, open your charge port door from the center screen so all you have to do is plug in.
  15. Made a four-tire air-down/air-up kit for the Rivian

If you want to use the hose system for deflating, you need to add an air valve like this: MORRFlate Slide Valve • MORRFlate by My Off Road Radio Well worth the added cost. Just install it on the feed line that connects to your source of air. Ideally you have a pressure gauge installed too, so...
  16. Made a four-tire air-down/air-up kit for the Rivian

I strongly recommend NOT getting air chucks like these that only have a single locking clamp that engages only one side of the valve stem's threads to lock on. They will leak and they can damage the threads on your tire's valve stems. For slick operation with almost no air leakage, and not...
  17. Apple vs. Tidal comparison review -- and Atmos

I'm a fan of Tidal. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, but Tidal has different sound quality, different bit rates, depending upon whether you have a premium account. On my Tesla's, I can tell which I am listening to because the current selection either has a little "HiFi" icon, or not. Even...
  18. Rivian EDV (Amazon Delivery Van) Production Suspended Due to Parts Shortage

I wonder how the contract Rivian has with Amazon is structured. I would think Amazon would be contractually obligated to purchase the vans that meet a certain spec at a determined price as they come off the line, as long as they are not coming off the line faster than contractually agreed to...
  19. EA days are numbered for me

That's true, and I agree with you. But it's only half the story. Because they are a for profit company. Even when forced to do something, a rational company still wants it to cost as little as possible (or how about the novel concept of actually making a profit?). VW could either make EA a...
