  1. Article: Rivian's path to survival is now remarkably clear -- agree / disagree?

I disagree. Or I should say it’s not any more clear than it was before the R1 refresh. Yes, they have made some good cost reduction moves under the skin. But, I’m still concerned about the number of options Rivian has, especially on the higher trims. They should really limit configurations to...
  2. LFP Standard Pack Daily Charge Recommended 85% by Rivian

I was told by Rivian that they are recommending the Gen 2 refresh LFP standard packs to daily charge no more than 85%. I posed this question on the support chat and the rep consulted the battery experts and that was their response. If this is accurate, that’s a big let down for the LFP standard...
  3. Tesla Model Y price slashing again, and the future of RIVN

As much as I don’t care for the Model Y and have a deep dislike for Elon, model Y pricing is a super deal and Rivian better be careful how they price the R2. Most people will pick an R2 over a model Y but if it came down to a $10k price difference for comparable range, an R2 will be a hard sell.
  4. 22” Continental Terrain Contact A/T tires resulted in a negligible INCREASE in efficiency (2.07 mi/kwh) compared to OEM Pirellis (2.04 mi/kwh)

Now that’s fresh to DEF! Looks super sharp with the green. I thought they would get slightly better range than the 20” AT config? Oh well….
  5. R2 ICE Equivalent?

To your point, I actually sat in a Defender 110 with the 3rd row option. It was super cramped for leg room and made me wonder why they even made it an option. The Defender did have more head room overall and comparable width for the first two rows.
  6. 22” Continental Terrain Contact A/T tires resulted in a negligible INCREASE in efficiency (2.07 mi/kwh) compared to OEM Pirellis (2.04 mi/kwh)

The OP said he got better range compared to the OEM 22” tires. That may have been due to environmental differences but we can safely say the efficiency on the Conti 22” ATs are better than the OE 20” Perelli ATs.
  7. R2 ICE Equivalent?

I think Tesla did it wrong with keeping the S and the X priced so high that it’s a huge price gap between a S/X and a 3/Y. Some people just want a larger car and an S/X isn’t that much bigger than a 3/Y But they cost twice as much. Elon even said they only make the S and the X at this point for...
  8. 22” Continental Terrain Contact A/T tires resulted in a negligible INCREASE in efficiency (2.07 mi/kwh) compared to OEM Pirellis (2.04 mi/kwh)

Maybe one of your wheels has a slight bend? Good to hear they ride smooth. I will be watching to see what kind of mileage everyone gets out of them.
  9. 22” Continental Terrain Contact A/T tires resulted in a negligible INCREASE in efficiency (2.07 mi/kwh) compared to OEM Pirellis (2.04 mi/kwh)

Looks really nice! Seems like these are the perfect balance of on-road and off-road aesthetic without much of a hit to range or increased road noise. Nobody uses tire conditioner? LOL
  10. Rivian Front Headlights Design

OP is right, most people find the front of the R1 lineup unattractive but like all other sides of the vehicles. I personally don’t think the issue is the pill shaped lights, I think it has more to do with the large front frosted light bar, or maybe it’s the combination of both. The light bar is...
  11. R2 ICE Equivalent?

The Discovery is close in size to the R1S unless you are referring to the Discovery Sport.
  12. R2 ICE Equivalent?

Right, it is a combination of size and ground clearance.
  13. R2 ICE Equivalent?

Man I hope not. I guess it will still sell but, not for me.
  14. R2 ICE Equivalent?

I see a lot of comparisons to Grand Cherokees and Defenders. That would be great but the truth is those SUVs are similar in size and capability to the R1S.
  15. R2 ICE Equivalent?

I’m surprised by all the responses with crossovers. If Rivian makes the R2 more like a crossover as opposed to a proper SUV, they will still sell a lot of them but I think they will dilute their brand identity. The electric crossover space is getting crowded. Rivian needs to hold on to the...
  16. R2 ICE Equivalent?

What will the ICE eqivalent of the R2 be? Or what should it be? I keep thinking of a Bronco Sport, which would be disappointing.
  17. From a former Jeep and current Bronco owner

I agree with your doubts about the R2. What’s the ICE equivalent of an R2 going to be? Ford Bronco Sport? Land Rover Discovery Sport? No thanks.
  18. For those who got R1S (or R1T) at original approximately $78k would you buy one for new price of approximately $93k?

Rivian R1T&S may be worth the new price but the bigger question is how many people can afford it and are willing to spend it? If Rivian is ok with the the R1 series staying a relatively low volume niche product then they can keep the price as is. But, can they survive selling a niche product...
  19. Houston to New Orleans in a Rivian?

This is very reasonable. Thanks for sharing!
  20. Houston to New Orleans in a Rivian?

Looks like there aren’t any fast chargers in NOLA. I have residential property to charge at but it would be nice to have a fast charger option when in a pinch. There used to be a Chademo charger at the Rouses on Barrone but that’s been down since Ida. NOLA needs to step it up.
