  1. Arby's run turns out badly for a Sandhill Crane.

In SE Michigan, there is a park near us (Kensington Metropark) that has many Sandhill Cranes year round. And people hand feed them. Sometimes when I'm walking with my kids, I need to walk around them so they don't get too close to the little ones. So, the idea of hunting them seems funny to me...
  2. Lectron NACS-to-CCS adapter starts shipping Jan 2024

Just to be clear, I believe the only Tesla SuperChargers that will be available for Rivian (and others) are V3 (and future V4) chargers. All of the early V1 and V2 chargers aren't compatible with the new protocols. That's a little unfortunate here in Michigan, as we were some of the early...
  3. Lectron NACS-to-CCS adapter starts shipping Jan 2024

It's my understanding from watching the OOS videos that the Tesla V3 and V4 terminals support the same protocol(s) that CCS uses. They can automatically differentiate between the old Tesla protocol and the other charging protocols. So, at a minimum, the adapter only needs to physically convert...
  4. Driver Under-seat pocket: reliable?

I don't have my R1S yet, but I thought the center console locks. Maybe only when the vehicle is locked? I think I saw a video that shared this information a while ago.
  5. Tesla Cybertruck crash test rating situation revealed by NHTSA, IIHS

I watched the hour long video with Munro and 5 Tesla people today. It was fairly interesting. I think there is a lot of good tech in this vehicle, and in the end it's clearly a Tesla. But, the reason I'm commenting here is because they spent a few minutes talking about the front and rear...
  6. Cybertruck taking the road less traveled

I'm not sure if it's actually floating. But this is the video I was referring to:
  7. Cybertruck taking the road less traveled

I was thinking similarly. It seems like adding the feature to pressurize it is admitting that you have a fault in your design or implementation of you battery pack. But, maybe they're just covering the corner case of it developing a leak over time?
  8. And this is why we can’t rely on self driving (eg FSD) features yet

My experience is very similar to this whole post, and... Now the wipers go to automatic whenever you turn on cruise control or AP/FSD. So, when I want the constant speed of an old school cruise control, it'll sometimes randomly wipe the windows for a few times. I miss a lot of the stuff from my...
  9. Cybertruck taking the road less traveled

I remember seeing a few years ago a Tesla (3 or S) driving through a flooded tunnel, and they were able to change lanes to get around the other stuck vehicles. I think the spinning wheels provided just enough forward motion and steering. Also, did you see that supposedly the CT has an option to...
  10. Share your winter road trip gear list and survival kit

Tire patch kit, with manual tire pump Large window brush Cell phone Wallet to rent a room at a hotel :) Oh, and live in Michigan
  11. EPA data shows Rivians more efficient than Cybertruck, even with larger wheels and batteries

I have a model 3 performance with the big brakes, and I couldn't fit the standard 18" wheels on it. But, I remember it being like 5%. But members on here say the Rivian covers are like 2%. Considering the wheel covers of the CT just don't look aero and the drag is higher than R1*, it really...
  12. EPA data shows Rivians more efficient than Cybertruck, even with larger wheels and batteries

It seems unlikely that they help with range much at all. I mean, it might have better range with them off. So, the range hit is probably the distance it takes to drive back and get them?
  13. Winter Tires: Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT 275/65 R 20 126/123Q ordered. Experience / reviews?

E rated tires likely need higher PSI to have the right load rating: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/ordered-new-20%E2%80%9D-wheel-with-48mm-offset-from-tirerack.19135/post-421686
  14. 'Internal rumors' from my mobile service tech (800V, LFP, new quad motor variant & more!)

I suspect it's both things. I think there is a lot of weight transfer to the rear as you get until 3.0 seconds 0-60. So, it doesn't help off the launch to have equal power front and rear if you're grip limited in the front. Also, I can see how they wouldn't want to push the power too high for...
  15. 'Internal rumors' from my mobile service tech (800V, LFP, new quad motor variant & more!)

While I was looking up the torque of the Rivian DM, Performance DM and QM to compare to the CT, I needed to find the final drive ratio. And in the thread that discusses how the top speed seems to be limited by the motors, I noticed the motors have a higher max RPM when running at 800V...
  16. EPA data shows Rivians more efficient than Cybertruck, even with larger wheels and batteries

The correction factor doesn't really take into consideration the different speeds. The data I was pulling from shows the roll down resistance at different speeds. So you can see how the efficiency changes over the speed. I like using it to compare how they'd work at different speeds in ideal...
  17. EPA data shows Rivians more efficient than Cybertruck, even with larger wheels and batteries

I saw this in another post here, but the rated efficiency is with All Season tires that aren't currently available. That changes the math quite a bit. The rated range with AT tires is 318 (DM) and 301 (TM). Not as much of a hit as Rivian's AT tires, but it also seems like they've been...
  18. R1S demand slowing down?

I just got an email from Rivian asking how long until I plan on ordering my Rivian. I said 6+ months. I think they're ramping up and trying to find homes for all these vehicles. They may need to start getting more than the reservation holders into the mix. I do wonder how many people are...
  19. 'Internal rumors' from my mobile service tech (800V, LFP, new quad motor variant & more!)

I assume those laid off workers means that Rivian isn't going to try to make their own cells, and they'll partner with someone else to do it. Based on what I read in the article, it doesn't seem related to the battery pack.
