I don't know why anyone pays for the non-standard paint. Seems like a stupid vanity expense. ;-)
I put a wrap on my old Model S. It was fun. But I did it myself for about $1k. It also helps protect the paint, but not as much as PPF film. I'm considering wrapping my future Rivian in a color...
Have you actually heard that? Or are you just teasing us? Because those things would be a more systematic change and it seems unlikely to happen at this time given the public information I've seen. And that would be a much bigger deal than all the other things she confirmed in the video.
That...
I'm watching the video as well, here are some interesting notes related to the factory update in 2024 Q2:
1. Confirmed going to zonal based network architecture
2. 60% less electronics
3. 25% less harness
4. The shutdown will be bringing in the Standard Pack
5. Updated battery pack (I agree, not...
But they did add some under bed storage that's pretty close to the tailgate. So, that seems better than nothing, but probably not quite as convenient as reaching over the edge.
They also have an angle forward under the windows. So, anything that slides forward would be hard to grab anyway...
Thanks for the explanation, and with pictures!
That's not the same thing that Tesla is doing here. They're changing the ratio depending on speed, not depending on steering angle.
Someone said that they heard that the force feedback is actually better than some standard steering racks. When I...
It seems pretty clear to me that Elon Mush just likes to say what he wants relatively unfiltered. That seems to be how he is trying to govern X. He's overly optimistic about his products' abilities and timelines. He regularly says things that are wrong, either known at the time or in the future...
Interesting. Does it have some sort of variable gear ratio thing between the steering wheel at the steering rack?
Still the advantage of DBW would be that you can do it via SW and update the profiles via OTA.
Maybe the sub 300 mile range is for the AT tires, but they'll also have some AS tires that are rated higher?
Also, these are likely the 5 cycle EPA estimates which usually works out to 20% less for real miles.
(I think that's what Rivian did with the Max Pack as well. :( I think they might be...
I suspect the common 'demographic' is people who want good EV's for $40k. :)
I think Volvo has delivered on that recently, right? Seems very possible for Rivian.
I think the benefit of drive by wire is realized in the CT. It has variable rate steering, and it has a separate steering for the rear. I really like the idea of variable rate steering. You could have like 70% of the steering relate to the max steering possible at that speed. Like if you are...
They did list the times at the end, but I'm not sure if those are the measured times, or the manufacturers time. I think it was 11.0 for CT and 11.7 for R1T. At least they did the Rivian on the 22', although they incorrectly stated that they were summer tires.
My best guess is that even though...
It's kind of funny because during his talking he says "... This is a high performance future product that we'll be launching....." with a long delay like he was about the say a release time frame but then kept his mouth shut for a few seconds to transition to the next thing.
This is basically what I was thinking too. I think it's probably better at some things, but worse for others. Tesla is already known for not so great steering feel. I wonder if this actually feels any worse.
His video was the most balanced of the ones I've seen so far. It was a pretty normal review for him, unlike the others that are Tesla Ads. He even said the side mirrors are meant to be removed. It's clear they had the design idea that you wouldn't need the rear or side mirrors.
As a tall...
I was thinking the pricing of the Cybertruck is pretty competitive, but then I remembered the quoted price doesn't include the FSD. Any idea how much AutoPilot is available for the base price? How is the feature parity with the Rivian Driver+?
Also, considering this is Tesla miles, I suspect...
In MKBHD's video, he said the battery is 123kWh. With a Cd of .34 vs Rivian's .29, and seemingly a larger cross section, it's not going to be nearly as efficient as a Rivian at speed, unless it's cold and the passenger heater is on. :) So... sort of a tie.
The latest gen C8 corvette uses a 48V system.

According to the EPA data, the Rivian Large Pack Battery weight: 796 kg = 1751.2 lbs. So, the pack is probably like 600 lbs to get 50 kWh + packaging, maybe 700 - future batter density ....
Still the cargo capacity will be noticeably less.
I don't have a Rivian yet (I continue my DM/QM waffling), but based on what I hear from others on here, it seems like the R1T may have relatively low stall torque compared to it's peak torque. Is there any way to test that? And/or it is heat limited as you slowly add more throttle, e.g...
