I’m not sure why nobody thinks that an upgrade to “gen 3 hardware” is possible.. the whole autonomy day details seemed to indicate that the entire architecture of R2, was forward thinking with an I/O system that can handle future upgrades, for processors/CPU/GPU and even possibly cameras...

They did say that the price of the Lidar HW units has come down substantially (I think they said ~ $500) so,not just reductions in size.. so ala XM and other features in modern cars they might build it in at launch, and enable it later. It’s probably cheaper overall assuming they have the HW...

Well technically the quote I was referencing said they were losing 1-2 KW a day, not miles.. I’m guess an R2 should be able to muster probably a 3-3.5 mile per KW conversion, so it’s more than 1-2 MILES..

That does seem like a lot.. I’ve gotten used to my 2018 M3 LR losing maybe 1-2 miles A WEEK when parked in the garage.. it’s certainly very manageable. Hmm, will have to really consider this when clicking BUY on the upcoming R2
