  1. R2 Changes Since 2024 (Mike Kantorski)

I've also noticed this – the hostility and superiority coming from it. Of course, this isn't true of everyone. But gatekeeping information is not the way to go. Some people will always push it, especially If it isn't their day job. There will always be over hype, clickbait, etc. But that's the...
  2. R2 Changes Since 2024 (Mike Kantorski)

I appreciate Rivian being bold and trying things like the front-folding seats and power ports on the rear. Sad to see them go. I just hope the powered roof rails remain, that seems like a relatively cheap and easy thing to keep that would really be valuable.
  3. R2 Changes Since 2024 (Mike Kantorski)

Don't conflate someone's ability to influence with a populations ability to be influenced. One of the great things is that you don't require qualifications to speak on a topic. What a sad place it would be to have that system. We'd be stuck with watching the news at 5 PM every night – because...

There's one from an owner who has linked their account on Rivian Roamer. đź‘€
  5. R2 Changes Since 2024 (Mike Kantorski)

What a lot of people seem to be missing. Is while it may not be new information to you it doesn't mean there is no information in there for others. For the power users of the brand you will generally get new information before any content creator could put together a script, film and edit it...
  6. 2026 Gen 2 R1S battery capacity drop due to cold - what’s normal?

That's such a frustrating experience, I'm sorry you're dealing with things like this. Thank you for the kind words, I do zero advertising - I believe in the product speaking for itself and anecdotes like this keep me going. Given your experience if there is anything else I can add or do...
  7. Phantom / Vampire Drain Solution Works! Using 12v Battery Tender

HA is a great option for those self-hosting. I may publish a guide on how to do this securely. I believe people should do what they feel is right for them. The reason I started RR was to make it a "dumb reach" for folks who don't want to think about it. I found over 200 instances of HA that...
  8. 2026 Gen 2 R1S battery capacity drop due to cold - what’s normal?

Much of what makes EVs efficient is regenerative braking. If they can’t regen they’re much less efficient. Do you have brake blending on?
  9. 2026 Gen 2 R1S battery capacity drop due to cold - what’s normal?

That's definitely #2. A few factors play a role in this. It takes a lot of energy to heat a cabin, which is often a product of waste heat. If you don't precondition the cabin well before you head out, you're now putting that work on the drivetrain/battery. Batteries themselves also as overall...
  10. 2026 Gen 2 R1S battery capacity drop due to cold - what’s normal?

The issue is how Rivian communicates it. Right now it's done via an opaque process. 1. Rivian lowers net battery capacity to reserve for thermal management, none of which can a customer see 2. Driving in the winter is just less efficient I think you're talking about #2, but #1 is still happening.
  11. 2026 Gen 2 R1S battery capacity drop due to cold - what’s normal?

The bigger issue is how Rivian makes this opaque. They try to shield the customer and all they do is cause more confusion. Tesla handles this better.
  12. 2026 Gen 2 R1S battery capacity drop due to cold - what’s normal?

Let me know what you find. I've been begging Rivian to add battery temp to the API. This thread has inspired me to add some features to the dashboard for Rivian Roamer. Here's my Gen 1 Large Gen 2 Tri Max R1T Gen 2 Tri Max R1S
  13. 2026 Gen 2 R1S battery capacity drop due to cold - what’s normal?

net capacity does drop, but pre warming with make a big difference. my Tri Max swings from 143 in the summer down to 131 kWh in the winter
  14. 2026 Gen 2 R1S battery capacity drop due to cold - what’s normal?

It does, it just take a crap ton of energy to heat such a large thermal mass and Gen 2 just doesn't have a lot of thermal capacity to actually do that. This was evidenced by not having full regen until I am 30 minutes into a drive. The HVAC system in Gen 2 is quite weak, I assume in the name of...
  15. 2026 Gen 2 R1S battery capacity drop due to cold - what’s normal?

You can't do it from the app but in the vehicle you can precondition the battery. It's meant for charging but it should work for your needs.
