Love the idea that now the 12v system has effectively double the chance of failure, since it's basically inoperable with half the system down.
Why in the world would they build it this way I wonder, every other car just has the single 12V bus, why would there be two nonredundant systems?
I was hunting for this today to reset and I literally couldn't find it, unreal how someone thought this was a good idea, it was right at home in that vehicle info tab.
The OE tires actually are rated for 130 (H) and it's already given some people hassle because tire shops sometimes refuse to put on a lower speed tire, even though the vehicle can't actually go that fast.
I did a decent amount of skiing with the car and my conclusion was that it's not great - not horrible. I didn't have any of the issues that people were talking about here, but I've been driving in snow and ice for a while and am fairly used to it. You just have to be aware that it's a HEAVY car...
People saying the Y isn't comparable to the R1 seem to be missing the point that "EV" is somewhat of a category all on its own. People in the market for a car like this are cross shopping across a much wider range of the market because their main consideration is "EV" not a particular form...
Cornering I would expect to be better, the R1 is a heavy beast and there's really no way around that.
What I have a problem with (I don't have or drive a Y) is that the ride on the R1 still feels unnecessarily rough, with high frequency impacts (like running over expansion joints) giving a...
Most of that is visible on the driver display (though I would like battery/motor temps as is common in trucks), I would like to be able to guess when I'm going to run into a "battery too cold" warning next time before it happens.
+1 on tripmeter (and perhaps trip efficiency so far) on one of...
Mine have been fine, I regularly ski so I'm driving over snow packed roads fairly often. You're never going to get around the fact that this is a *heavy* car and that works against you, and the AT tire is *not* a snow tire. It's a very hard compound that won't grip packed snow as effectively...
If I'm honest I haven't asked them - I stuck a piece of foam tape on the bottom of the flashlight holder and that holds it in a good enough position to charge. I didn't want to bring it in just for that but I'd probably mention it if they're fixing something else already.
I don't think it's fair to compare a float charger on an ICE 12V to the power use of this vehicle. If I left my other car for a month plugged into a 12v charger it might use 100 or 200wh which is a far cry from 45kWh which wouldn't be unusual in the R1. The power drain from most cars 12v systems...
It absolutely is on them to provide me an option to maintain an accurate speedometer/odometer regardless of what tire I want to put on the thing. This is a solved problem by every other manufacturer. It's hubris to say "but no, you have to use *our* special tires."
I don't care if Rivian wants...
I feel like Tesla's price drop is more of an impact than this financing announcement. Model X is now at 99k for 350 miles, which is about the price of the R1S. You can argue it's not as capable but Tesla isn't going anywhere, the car is well established, and you would have access to a far...
I don't really like flush handles as a design trend but PAAK has generally worked pretty well for me on my pixel 6. Only problem is the battery drain on the phone leaving the app running too long, but as far as detection it's consistent and reliable.
Cadillac and the TM3 handles IMO seem like...
It's a bit annoying because IMO I think the best tire selection is actually 275/55/R20 which doesn't match any size they sell. Like literally 5x the options with comparable load and speed ratings to OEM, and a pretty good match for mostly road use.
Yeah I can see it maybe being useful when it happens the first time, but I'd rather have it be an option. I drive up and down the Colorado mountains a ton and I hit regen limits a dozen times a trip. The constant bing bong would drive me nuts.
That said even with reduced regen it typically will...
That is highly dependent on who is making it. Cars contain more than an engine and transmission, and who makes those components is a huge factor in reliability which also factors into operational cost.
Given the out of warranty repair rates I don't think these will be cheaper to keep on the...
Insurance isn't a solution to excessive costs - my issue is not that I can't afford a windshield replacement, it's that needing one at that price isn't economical. If anything concealing the costs behind insurance allows them to balloon out of control more easily because there's less 'sticker...
That's a lot easier to stomach when the windshield isn't $1800.
These things break, but it's *glass*, glass isn't that expensive, the cost of repairing a wear item can't be that high if this is going to be sustainable. If I lose a windshield every 2 years it blows out whatever I was saving on...
The only thing I'd worry about with the charge port door is if it's that far off on the back end it might be rubbing on the body panel on the front. I had to have mine re-fitted because of that (scraped some paint off the charge port door but not the metal body.
It doesn't look super clean but...
