I can walk a mile in 15 minutes, grabbing a can of gas and filling it is much easier than rescuing an EV.
I don't think Kyle is really clickbaity but he is testing/experiemneting with things that we hopefully don't have to deal with ourselves and I'm thankful for that. Unfortunately the only...
In Rally and Drift "Off" really does seem to mean off. I can feel absolutely no intervention when doing pretty much any maneuver, including an intentional 180 to change direction.
Not sure about general off road modes but I would generally trust Rivian means "off" when they say it.
I saw this happen on one of my drives. I figured it might just be some finicky thing that didn't feel like working that day and it went away the next time I drove the car, I didn't do any reset/etc.
You need the AC to remove moisture from the air. I would assume the defroster is much more focused on heat so it won't blow as dry cool air.
At least when I tried it I only had to have the defogger on for a minute or so before it all just disappeared then I went back to normal cabin...
It doesn't let me set a 50% charge limit so I don't always leave it charging. I do a lot of local trips where I don't need a ton of charge and battery aging is typically lower at lower charge, albeit with diminishing returns.
70% won't do too much bad to the thing, but it's still above how I...
Unless the temperature is really down like around -20F a lithium battery should be okay, but yeah you do have to heat it significantly to charge because below freezing the anode lattice contracts and can't properly absorb ions.
I would probably rather just leave the truck unplugged rather than...
I don't use a juicebox but i haven't seen anything like this with my EVSE (Autel Maxicharge).
Given the other comments here it seems like they're poorly manufactured. I don't think there's any history of people seeing the R1 not respect the EVSE current limits - and if it didn't I would expect...
I can confirm "Rally" is the best mode for snow.
Before you say 'drift' - drift is so tail happy it definitely does what it says on the tin but rally is nicely balanced and still steps out easy if you want it
The best thing you could do for it is put a wheel chock under one or both of the front wheels. The rear is held by brakes but nothing stops the fronts from rolling. With 3-4 wheels pinned it shouldn't move.
Because despite how neat whiz-bang electronic feedback control is, nothing is more precise in applying torque where it's needed than a locking axle.
A locking differential perfectly and instantly applies the correct amount of torque to each wheel to match their speeds. This means no spinning...
If I put all that garbage on the street I'll get code enforcement called on me.
If I put a car that takes up the same amount of space there nobody bats an eye.
I prefer to keep my vehicles in the garage - but people store 'junk' in their garage for a reason, it's treated completely different...
It's much easier to control axle speed with a locker. Torque control is relatively instantaneous with an electric motor, but speed control is much more difficult because you have to sense and adjust to a varying load. With a locker this is all done for you. After seeing R1s try to offroad it's...
This was my experience as well.
That said - losses from idle drain is still electricity I have to pay for. If my last car just leaked gas excluding that loss from mpg calculations wouldn't make much sense, measuring the total energy loss against miles traveled an accurate reflection of...
High just allows more regen if you are fully off the pedal - you can modulate it either way to get less regen braking.
That said it almost feels like the pedal force required is higher on high? It might just be in my imagination but it bugged me so I usually drive in 'standard'. Also helps me...
I think in an EV the single button makes sense - you're either spending power on cabin conditioning or you're not. In a gas powered car you're only engaging extra systems/energy to use AC and that's why they have the button but not one for heat.
That said it should show what it's doing...
Oh yes it was :). Overall snowpack is still a little thin but it hasn't been flattened too badly so there's some powder that makes some of those paths more pleasant than they might otherwise be even with more snow on the hill. It was just cold as heck out there this week.
