Villanova here, got my R1S back in April. I'm more of a sports car guy myself, hoping the Rivian becomes my wife's daily driver. But would be curious to do modest offroading somewhere in eastern PA if folks have recommendations.
For OP - Did you have an 12V accessories plugged into any of the 12V outlets?
I'm now curious if the Rivian trickle charges the 12V when it is parked or if it only charges the 12V when driving.
Nice experiment , thanks for the details. On the one hand 14% battery sounds like a lot.
But on the other hand, people underestimate how much power even a single video camera pulls. I've got a single forward looking dash cam in my Ford Expedition and it will completely drain the 12V truck...
You're putting your finger on a broader pattern that I have seen with some Rivian design decisions - it's a younger person's perspective - for example:
There is no Odometer on the dashboard. If you grew up always using GPS, that makes sense. If you group up reading street signs and using...
I can’t speak for the R1T, but for the R1S the compressor is located behind the frunk cavity and forward of the windshield.
I found a Reddit thread about this issue. It explained why my wife was complaining about the throttle pedal vibrating, the AC noise vibration can get so bad that the...
I'm just glad to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem. On startup the compressor is reaching "I need hearing protection" levels of noise. I guess this is 'normal' - but wow it sounds terrible. Won't be surprised if it fails in a few months.
Just to conclude this adventure, I drove the vehicle back to the service center. They found the problem quickly. It was not fluid from the suspension, but rather the oil inside the drive unit. A filter plug had been cross-threaded in assembly. To be safe they are going to replace the whole...
Thanks that's helpful! I'm scanning the forums to see if I can find any information on the reported overfills that folks are mentioning, since it happened so much earlier in mileage for me, I'm hoping that is the issue and I can self-diagnose, rather than paying the $1300 bucks to tow the vehicle.
Agreed, I don't know what to say about that change in policy.
I ordered this R1S three years ago and did not realize I was going to have to get the car back to Brooklyn just to get it serviced - 90 miles itself wouldn't be that bad in the suburbs, but in the daytime that's easily a 3 hr...
I called the regular service line and the rep repeated multiple times that they are now charging for any tows. She said it is $50 + $6.50 per mile. Being 90 miles away from the service center that's a $635 tow for me.
What was your mileage when you noticed the leak? I've got 230 miles on my R1S and it is leaking drive train oil / fluid. Rivian charges for the tow now, so it will cost me $1300 bucks (round trip) to get this fixed. I'm going to try and see if I can figure out if it was an overfill vs. a...
