Agree, it's not EV only - it's just more prominent for EVs.
Much of the EV's selling points are electric features embedded into the vehicles. At least for ICE, there are mechanical features that sells some of the vehicles, especially sports cars and sports sedans/CUVs like twin-turbo, DCT, V6...
Agree for certain types of vehicles (e.g., some trucks, sports cars). For vast majority of users, its just a transportation and given a choice of having eyes free L4 point to point self driving versus not having it will mean a difference.
People who have not taken up Tesla FSD are those who...
Yes they said starting very soon gen 2 R1's will be able to do hands-off self driving. The eyes-off will be only on gen 3 R2 vehicles.
So gen 2 is effectively legacy/old hw and will be less and less capable as the time goes by when compared to R2
RJ just killed off R1. R2 is gen 3 including LiDAR and Rivian developed AI chip.
This is exactly the reason holding onto EVs for more than 3~5 yrs is just like computers - outdated.
Just as I've said before these vehicles are laptop with wheels and cannot place ICE paradigm onto EVs.
Very sorry to hear. New door panel and painting.
They can match the paint easy enough. The hard part is how the metallic particles cures versus how the rest of the vehicle has cured. All Rivian paints, except the Glacier White, have metallic mixed into it.
Again, sorry to hear. Good luck.
I own $PSNY, along with most of the other EV maker stocks. I look at it like a venture capital in that if one make it worthwhile, it will offset all the losses of others. I bought $PSNY at around $0.80 share and sold most of it when it was around $1.20. Now what's left is underwater though.
I...
Inside or outside of the vehicle?
There was what we used to call the coffin creaking sounds that came from the front of the vehicle. That was the cooling duct intake opening and closing.
Have not read anything about interior vent closing being an issue.
Most experts are seeing EV Winter as the sales for any EVs falling significantly. Regardless of how good the iX3 is, the demand, aside from the very initial surge, will fall off rather quickly in this country. If BMW sticks to their conventional options pricing, the starting price is...
My recollection is that if you are an early VIN Model 3 owner, there were more issues and the service center was able to handle the early few. It didn't help that there was a physical recall (not SW update) on a rear suspension issue early on.
About 6 months into the Model 3 deliveries, the...
Agree. That said. maybe the Neue Klasse vehicles will have simpler option package and be more price competitive, at least to start with.
There is so much riding on the new platform for BMW that they cannot risk failure in the market place by their usual pricing strategy....maybe :)
The build time difference is easily explained with the fact that there are less steps to build R2 over R1. The very simple fact that body on frame requires more steps than an unitized body where there is no mating between the frame and the body.
Additionally, R2 is much less contents than R1...
The thing that help conceal the lack of steering feedback is what you feel in the seat. Rivian does transition directions better than most so one immediately feel the lateral forces in the seat of the pants. This coupled with some feedback from the steering wheel helps the driver take notice...
R1S Quad gen 1:
Steering is too light and has no real feedback (i.e., variable steering weight as a function of cornering forces, including tire behavior) as it is an electronic power steering (vs hydraulic). I have over 31K miles on the clock so plenty of driving time in all different drive...
No matter how great the professional reviews are, any completely new vehicle will have teething issues in the early production run. No amount of testing can address all the potential issues. So if anyone is interested, recommend waiting a year or two before plunging in (btw, same goes for R2)...
I am retired in south OC and have owned R1S since August 2023. The vehicle now has 31K miles or so.
The question you need to ask yourself is what is your expectation of this vehicle and what do you think you are getting.
The Rivian vehicles today are built on a body on a truck frame with air...
