  1. Rivian R1S Gen 1. 12 V Battery Replacement. Again!

The HV battery is supposed to keep the 12V battery charged. So the problem may be more upstream that caused the 2nd battery failure due to consistent low charge. Rather than just have the battery changed, I would have Rivian take a look at the HV to 12V charging system. As a side note, my...
  2. 12-Month review: I can't recommend the R1S for most people

Interesting thing about what we own or buy into. Whenever anyone criticize anything about it, they react as though we called their kid ugly or stupid. The OP, @ATLRivvy, provided a honest view and his experience. Take it or leave it. If your experience is different, say that and stop there...
  3. Rivian headlights at night in snowstorm = zero visibility

Tell us this when your family member is stuck somewhere or when kids need to be picked up....
  4. 2% SoC loss overnight - what should I look for?

Wasn't clear on your write up so to be rhetorical, if in the garage don't lock the vehicle and make sure your phone/key fob/key card are not within the proximity of the vehicle. The vehicle should goto sleep. If not, contact one of the service center nearby.
  5. R2 in snow & cold temperature testing

It's not a feature, per sa, it's a safety item. The Mach-e and R1 have different configuration of lights and it's also not a question of enough snow but how long one drives in the snow and how wet the snow, as a flake/size, is. As the snow liquefy and the temperature is freezing, then there...
  6. Time for mudflaps

When set to standard height, All Purpose, Intermediate damping on my 23 R1S w/22" wheels, on freeway at 75~80 mph, before the mud flaps, about 2.1 miles/Wh. After mud flaps 1.8~1.9 miles/Wh. Drop to low suspension, improves to 1.9~1.95 (never gets to 2 miles/Wh on flat topology). In Sports...
  7. Time for mudflaps

I have those installed on my R1S for almost a year and just a heads up, there is efficiency hit. Need to use low or lowest to minimize range hit from the rear mudflaps.
  8. GM will cut thousands of jobs in Michigan, Tennessee and Ohio - "In response to slower near-term EV adoption and an evolving regulatory environment"

Agree. The expiration of EV incentives pulled so much demand forward that EV sales in October was down well over 75% YOY. The industry is expecting the EV sales to normalize by the end of 26Q1~26Q2. GM is pausing given their existing inventory levels of cells and EVs. I'm guessing that since...
  9. R1S Range Drop in Cold Weather

If it's new to you, it can be very surprising. Just need to plan differently in the cold climate. https://www.recurrentauto.com/research/winter-ev-range-loss
  10. "Vehicle Offline" showing in app

Comparisons aside, I find that Rivian software is not what it should be. There are too many little inconsistencies. They'll fix somethings and new issues pop up. I always do a hard reboot after every firmware update.
  11. Rivian VW JV: cold weather test in Q1 2026 to unlock $1B investment. JV tech could extend to combustion cars

According to the Automotive News, VW is pausing additional investments. Don't know if it affects the new tranche of Rivian investment and/or JV is at risk. "VW said to delay investments amid financial uncertainty; Audi U.S. production at risk Volkswagen Group’s supervisory board has...
  12. HVB battery capacity - is there any way to determine its current capacity?

Maybe a different paradigm is needed. If you think about an EV more of a laptop with wheels than a vehicle with computer on board, one can get to needing to replace every few years (4~6 yrs). An upgrade cycle, as it were. Most of us do this already with our computing devices and smartphones...
  13. HVB upgrade possible?

Its planned obsolescence by not just Rivian but with all EV makers. They all want you to get another vehicle and not keep using the old.
  14. R2 in snow & cold temperature testing

So will Rivian address cold headlamps that becomes useless when snowing? Hope R2 (and R1) get a heat element in the lamp glass to address the ice/snow buildup.
  15. Rivian should make an R1V camper van

Since GM has decided to cancel BrightDrop vans, there are already two companies (Grounded EV and Coachman) that were /are planning to making campers, there is no reason why they cannot do the same with RCV//EDV. I too would love to see RCV converted into a camper.
  16. RJ Scaringe gets new pay package worth up to $4.6 billion

There always are exceptions and are very small percentage of the total. Sure, you're right. Go with that.
  17. RJ Scaringe gets new pay package worth up to $4.6 billion

I was responding to the tone of the discussion above my posts. I've already made comments about RJ's redo several pages ago. I do not support moving the goals from the original ICP RJ had.
  18. RJ Scaringe gets new pay package worth up to $4.6 billion

The notion that people with significant wealth needs to be compared to others smacks of "haves-and-have nots". People need to own and take responsibility of their lives outcomes and stop looking for others to compare against. Worse, seek some justice in their mind by penalizing the "haves"...
  19. RJ Scaringe gets new pay package worth up to $4.6 billion

You're one of those... Who wants to tax people for unrealized gains. These are not real wealth, but paper wealth and want to tax them now. When gains turn to losses, I bet you don't want the losses to offset the gains either. As for actually paying taxes, its a fact that the top 20% pay...
  20. RJ Scaringe gets new pay package worth up to $4.6 billion

Meet too. I met him him at the Laguna Beach Spaces at the pre opening event. I don't know about killing puppies but he too is a human and not a saint so I don't expect him to be without personal desires, biases and motivations.
