  1. Don’t buy a Rivian and why? SORRY!!!!

To RivianFun ... Just my perspective, but the negative response you got was not because you voiced your opinion. Rather it's because you were telling people what to do ... Its the title. I looked at your other posts as well as today's. You ask questions and present opinions which generate...
  2. Closing the tailgate - heavy & cumbersome

A typical full size truck tailgate when opened extends about the length of the truck bed depth (20 - 24"). However R1T bed is short and shallow, only about 18" deep. Rivian designed the tailgate with extended hinges, and a piece to cove the gap. This allows the tailgate to extend about 25"...
  3. Rivian if you're listening… YouTube Music natively

Although Rivian vehicles are capable of connecting to cell network, Rivian is not a cell carrier. ATT provides the cell access to Rivians which Connect+ runs on. Although the monthly fee passes through Rivian, ATT gets the $ and is the service provider.
  4. First newb questions- running boards and powering off

When on the ferry I think you are describing camping mode. There are a number of variables you can set within camping mode ... Camping mode is intended to shut down all the lights and sounds so as to not disturb others while you are still using the parked vehicle.
  5. Is this normal height level after update with kneel mode

Looks like the new normal compared to mine. Its noticeably lower. Top of front tire is about even with outer edge of the fender, maybe slightly inside. The rear tire is within about an inch of the the outer edge of the fender.
  6. 30 amp campground charging question

Same here. To separate I unplug from power source then use a large flat head screwdriver to pry the adapter from the plug on the portable charger.
  7. iKamper RTT over R1T Bed -- how do you tighten the front mounts? SOLVED: HEX Sockets

In the end, I purchased a 12", 5mm (I think that's the size) hex wrench and cut it down to about 10". Long enough but not too long to tighten the front hex bolts in the bracket and long enough for the back bracket bolts. But first attempt was to use the 1 meter wrench iKamper provides, by...
  8. Rivian has shaped a lot of my life, built a DECA project around it and would love your input

The slides and presentation are very good ... look professional, great information and very clear in what they say. But I will be honest ... You have a huge hole in your proposal. I do not know what the judges use for evaluation so it may be different from my professional experience. ...
  9. Setting "Home" location in Maps to coordinates

Yes. I believe you just put in the geo coordinates in the search of maps screen and search (like you are planning a trip). Then name location as home. I have not tried it ... but I believe all the navigation systems are actually converting addresses to coordinates anyhow. Kind of like URLs...
  10. Is preconditioning before DCFC really worth it?

In my experience DCFC does not warm the battery a lot. At high outdoor temps (110+) the battery holds its temp steady ( under 110+)while charging, but you can hear the R1 cooling. In cold weather it warms slowly. A 10 min charge will not warm the battery much.
  11. Is preconditioning before DCFC really worth it?

On my Gen 2 preconditioning warms battery to 105 if given enough time. When cooling it appears to target about 107
  12. Am I the only one who thinks anything less than 400mi of range is legacy at this point?

Some people do have bladder issues, some have cancer, some have bad backs, some have birth defects or injuries from accidents, others have suffered war injuries defending your freedom ... There are many reasons some people cannot sit in one place for hours. There are also people who criticize...
  13. Is preconditioning before DCFC really worth it?

The primary point of preconditioning it to get charged faster, not necessarily use less energy ... but there are a number of relevant variables, battery, motor and outdoor temperatures. My experience is the battery likes to precondition to about 105 degrees in cold weather. But charging speed...
  14. Am I the only one who thinks anything less than 400mi of range is legacy at this point?

We all have different needs. However, reality is, for most people 300 miles of range will be sufficient once they understand its a different mindset fueling an EV verses ICE ... and cars are mass marketed. This isn't 2016. The number of fast charge stations added over the past 10 years is...
  15. We Built Our First Camp Kitchen in a Basement. Three Years Later, We're Saying Thank You. - Thunderbolt Adventure

If I were making the decision, I would go with the Thunderbolt camp kitchen and sled. The stove and sink are separate modules which can be installed or removed from the R1T sled in a minute (four big locking feet hold each in place on sled). They can be used standalone on a table, tailgate...
  16. New to forums and Rivian - want to discuss my pre-purchase concerns

I assuming you are looking at a new R1 Gen 2. There are some very big differences between gen 1 and gen 2 as well as specific configurations. I have a R1T gen 2 dual large, with 22" wheels. Range - In mild weather (40 degrees to 90) pretty much match EPA. 3.4 miles per kwh city, about 2.8...
  17. Are there any negative consequences to consistently charging at a lower amperage than your charger’s capacity?

To answer your question, there is no issue with stepping down from the charger's max capacity. You can set the maximum in the R1. There are valid reasons you may want to do this. For example, if your utility has a demand charge.
  18. Curious charging calculations

Short answer is the amount of electricity provided to charge and SOC for the battery are calculated differently. Electricity flowing through a wire can be accurately measured (volts and amps). On the other hand, a battery SOC can't directly be measured, its calculated. The 87.2 kwh is an exact...
  19. Linear Slide recommendations for a DIY tunnel slide

Petty cool implementation. Yes, they mounted two slides together as a sandwich. The inner slide is mounted to the drawer and works as a normal drawer in that direction. The cabinet side of the inner slide is then attached to the drawer side of the reverse direction outer slide. The outer slide...
  20. Linear Slide recommendations for a DIY tunnel slide

Having built well over 100 drawers with side mount slides for custom cabinets and furniture, here are a few thoughts. To have the slide roll out 4 or 5 feet of both sides is virtually impossible. Since all heavy duty slides are designed to slide only one direction, you would need a method to...
