  1. R1S not being driven for 14-16 weeks - Tips?

There is a storage/transport setting for Rivian. I recommend calling the service and ask what is the best thing to do. Just about everything I've ever read about not driving Li-Ion BEV for a long time is to have it plugged in and set the SOC to 50%, not 70~80%.
  2. Rivian Pulling Demand Levers

There are many alternatives to R1 now. At the price range of R1, there are more people looking for luxury vehicles than adventure vehicle with significant off road capabilities. The vehicle sales were high for April, based on reports from automakers. BEV fell for the most part while PHEV...
  3. Tesla board opened search for a CEO to succeed Elon Musk, WSJ reports

Tesla sales are not down 70% across the board. It is down. No argument. Also its easy to increase sales when others are introducing new models and the comparison is so much lower for most auto companies (yes, don't bother bringing up BYD - an exception) Since Tesla has the most to lose from a...
  4. Tesla board opened search for a CEO to succeed Elon Musk, WSJ reports

Don't know the source and who was asked to participate in the survey but if you replace the word Tesla with EV, the percentage would not change very much for the general public.
  5. Rivian Pulling Demand Levers

I didn't get the one you got but did get this one. I do not have R2 reservation. No I was not interested. Get $10,500 in lease offers1 on any new R1 vehicle with a trade-in. Spring is here and Rivian’s all-terrain, all-electric vehicles are ready to explore with you. With our Electric Refresh...
  6. Crack in roof glass - should I just leave it?

If there was an option to replace a cracked glass room with an insulated solid roof, I would do that in a heart beat. If there was an option to get a traditional roof instead of glass, I would have chosen that for the R1S. I find the glass roof a negative feature rather than a positive...
  7. Why is RIVN Relatively Stable

Just to clarify, Tesla was profitable in 1Q 2025 due to environmental credit, just as Rivian was in 2024 Q4. The difference is that Tesla has been profitable for years now and has over $30B in cash and cash equivalents. Rivian has just enough to get to R2 production early next year. Tesla...
  8. Why is RIVN Relatively Stable

Rivian needed to do somethings since there is a huge gap between the R2 announcement and the releases. R1 Gen 2 was cost control and quality improvement (to lower warrantee costs). Ford has invested in profitable vehicles and reprioritizing their strategy. Other EV companies, besides than...
  9. Why is RIVN Relatively Stable

Mostly because its status quo - nothing good or bad. Average volume is down to 30m/day or thereabouts for the last 90 days and the total float is about 1.12b. Less than 3% traded daily. Many investors have lost interest and patience with Rivian currently.
  10. Telo EV Pickup Truck first look: 5 seats, 5 foot bed, 350 miles range, 0-60 in 4 seconds, size of Mini Cooper ?

Bit long but here's Jay Leno's garage on Telo. Timing is very interesting given the Slate reveal few days ago.
  11. RAN Survival and Sustainability

The best thing Rivian can do with their RAN is to sell it to one of the DCFC businesses (e.g. EA, Chargepoint, ...) There isn't enough RAN DCFC to matter across the country (i.e., Tesla SC), and its not really a revenue generator if the price is so uncompetitive that utilization is very low...
  12. EV transition: A consumer perspective

This is not Rivian specific but has lots of insightful information...
  13. When did you change your tire (mileage / average life)?

gen 1 22" OE tires changed at just under 18K miles. The tire had at least another 7K~10K miles left but got a blister on the sidewall on one of the tires. Rather than just replacing one tire, replace the set with Michelin Defender L/T MS2.
  14. Lifetime vehicle? Bringing future tech (battery upgrade swap) to early adopters feasible?

I don't swap batteries on laptops or phones. I just replace them. Rivian is a laptop with wheels, essentially from electronics perspective. While Rivian will continue to update the firmware and add features, with every passing year, there will be something faster, better and probably...
  15. $24,950 SLATE EV Truck / SUV Info & News

Thanks for catching that. I just grabbed the image at the section of the story I happened to be at the time. Didn't pay attention that the image is for another vehicle. The image you grabbed is one of the first images so I just assumed they all were images of Slate. Bezo was involved on...
  16. Range Rover EV

The best thing that happened to Range Rover was when Ford bought them in the 90s. They brought Ford's clout and priorities into RR supplier chain and replace most of the things that troubled them. I owned Jaguar S type V8 (Jaguar designed, not Ford's) for over 100K miles with no electronic...
  17. Lifetime Miles/kWh

Those voted above 2.7miles/kWh, you guys must drive downhill going and. coming back :) Other than some very short instances, I've never experienced that high of milage on the sustained basis, let alone on a road trips.
  18. $24,950 SLATE EV Truck / SUV Info & News

Thought some of you will enjoy reading this article. "Slate says the truck is “Designed to achieve the highest safety ratings” and comes standard with Active Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, and up to eight airbags."...
  19. Will you convert your R1 reservation into an order or are you reconsidering it?

    Rather than R3/R3X, I prefer this: https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/radical-new-bmw-1-series-due-ev-power-2028
  20. Rivian buy back: what should my next vehicle be?

In the last year or so, I've done a complete 180 degree on EV only thing. I used to be, after Tesla and Rivian, the only EV is the way to from now on. No gas stations - charge overnight at home and only use DCFC on road trips, no scheduled maintenance - oil change, flush and replace fluids...
