No new news, but good to see coverage.
CNBC reports, “
Following in Tesla's footsteps, another electric vehicle company has been making a name for itself, with a unique spin: Rivian Automotive...
Marketing materials say the normal underbody is strong enough to carry the weight of the Rivian while protecting the battery pack. Wasn’t it able to carry the weight on one square inch? Reinforced was even better. Ipso facto, you could jack it from anywhere underneath. Not recommending, just saying.
When I signed I was thinking it was a $100 binding agreement but this email says it’s a $1000 deposit on the agreement. I get that the $100 is the non-refundable part, but the $1000 deposit sounds more beefy which should work in our favor tax wise.
If you can replace 7 parts with one part I would think that would generally help lessen pressure on the supply chain. The issues go beyond "we need chip A and don’t have it." Look at the interior wood issues As an example. Processes required can affect supply available… one would think.
Totally agree and I for one am super grateful for the work you’ve done and for your generosity in riding point on getting it done. My thought was that it could be a heavy lift to coordinate 100 people’s pre-order. But hopefully not ??
If the cup holder is available on Amazon, perhaps the mounts are the most valuable part. Sell them for $10 or perhaps sell the design to one of the companies selling Rivian gear — like the people doing the vinyl for the tires or the folks printing the phone holders.
Agreed - I like it too! It’s certainly beautiful to the eye. Did you see RJ’s tweet video of the new interior? It’s stunning. I keep wishing these folks had showrooms though. I did my first mile drive 3 months ago and I have so many design questions now with no way to see them in person.
It’s a major design change, in the sense that the light wood introduced a warmth to the interior; with black or gray on the dash there’s no warmth in the cabin.
With Starlink out and functioning I could see Apple wanting to get ahead of the functionality. Perhaps they’ll buy or develop satellite connectivity that would deliver Apple Music like XM.
I heard a rumor that the next iPhone Pro will have satellite connectivity. The rumor suggested it was for emergency calls, but perhaps it could pull XM?
Interesting.
Does anyone think the white would be difficult to keep clean?
What's your philosophy on headliners? Is light or dark better?
I like the contrast of the white/black in the new OC, but I wonder if I'd like that starkness inside my vehicle. My current seats are beige with wood...
