I'll skip this Gen - Maybe the Gen3 will be for me
Selling my 2022 Gen1 Quad and upgrading to the new Quad would cost around $70k - just not worth it imho.
Yeah, actually as a consumer, I'm glad that Scout will offer this combo I'm looking for. Even better that they'll include a lot of proven Rivian tech :)
As an investor however, I assume that Rivian itself can and would pivot with market demand and competitor landscape.
Scout Harvester Take-Rate (>80%)
You don't need a gas range extender in a small or sporty car, but we are talking about proper midsize Trucks/SUVs with great offroad and towing capabilities here... There is currently no better tech available (also not in the pipeline) that enables affordable...
I really hope that Rivian is not religious about this like some of the folks in this forum are..
There is a clear market appetite and there are many use cases for a gas range extender. If Rivian doesn't offer a gas range extender, they will loose customers/sales to other brands -...
Good point, but in absolute numbers there is still a huge "towing market" to be addressed imho (see chatGPT screenshot). The take rate of the Scout Harvester option kind of supports that.
I feel it's also a lot about that freedom mindset you pointed out earlier. A truck should be that...
Yes I'm with you: A 200kwh batt would largely mitigate range anxiety for the typical longer drives.
However I don't think that for truck owners the towing scenario should be considered an edge case. I don't tow frequently so I for now I can somehow live with the limitations of my current R1T...
The 180kwh might be ok for the long road trip scenarios - but even then.. the extended charging time and the extra weight of that bigger battery isn't ideal.
For the towing scenario, the 180kwh isn't enough.
My 135kwh R1T has about 100-120 miles usable range when towing my enclosed car trailer...
No clue where those numbers are pulled from at this point, but I agree - a "150mile battery" would be too small.
Rivian is still a small and hopefully agile company that needs to get profitable and stay appealing to customers. From an R&D cost perspective, they should probably not develop a gas...
As a customer and a shareholder, I really hope they are pragmatic and not religious about it. :)
It's pretty clear that the future is full EV, but the battery tech isn't fully there yet. If Rivian could procure the system from VW/Scout and if there is a demand for it.. why not? It's a huge...
Yes that is the downside of that system, but did Scout already disclose the battery size or the battery/range-extender ratio of the Harvester version?
Would be a quite bad if they will just do 150 miles on the battery. That would just be sth like a 60-80kwh battery and looking at the size of the...
Imho an extra battery doesn't make sense, but until battery tech gets much better, I love the idea Scout is implementing with their gas powered "harvester" range extender. They have a very high take rate of this option and while this isn't most elegant solution for EV purists, it would help...
Thought about this a bit more after my first post:
If I would get a Gen2, it would be used Gen 2 R1T Quad earliest in late 2025 or early 2026.. I would buy used to mitigate the depreciation and besides the colors, there aren't many things to spec on a Rivian - so buying used is a great option...
I have Vin #09xxx from August 2022 and I'm at 20k miles. Love the R1T overall, but it keeps having the same issues, mainly rattles and clunks in the suspension and drivetrain. Has been in the SC for a few times but those problems keep coming back. Next SC visit already coming up..
It's starting...
