R1T Range Extender!?

Unless I am mistaken, there aren't any real-world production range extender vehicles except for the discontinued BMW i3 and Chevy Volt. It seems a bit disingenuous to rave at how great something is that only exists in theory or prototype. The real world examples of range extenders have all kinda failed.

Perhaps what is really being asked here is that "charge while driving" could be enabled, so that folks would be free to load up an energy source of their choice (gas generator, auxiliary battery, solar panel, windmill, fission reactor, hamster wheel, etc.) in the bed and go nuts. That could be a cool and fairly easy to implement feature. Might want a charge port in the truck bed for that.

Not something I would ever use but you do you.

All that says is that 90% of the market is ICE, doesnt say anything about all those 90% wanting to switch to EV if they had a range extender which was your claim.

Since they finally have some specs out for the Scout REEV / EREV (This acronym seems to be interchangeable), notes should be taken on how this affects towing capabilities. Also, this suggestion goes against Rivian's mission statement.

Ummh, a seemingly AI generated data source is not a credible source. At least not to me. And that does not equate to the percentage of consumers electing to not buy an EV, is directly tied to the lack of a GAS TANK.

ohh and BTW: if you had googled RJs stance on the development of ICE vs Electrical vehicles, you might have posted your gripe, want with better knowledge.

Agreed! Yeah I think a lot of people who owned an EV of this type with gas backup would seriously consider a full EV for their next vehicle purchase. Getting some real options on the market will do more to help the charging infrastructure and transition to EV than any of these extreme ideologist that avoid fuel no matter the application.

I don't think you understand most of the sentiment here, a gas range extender is a great option for those who want/need it. Sounds like Scout and Ram is the brand for you!

Rivian has been VERY clear that it's not in the cards for their vehicles, so it's not the brand for those who want/need an ICE range extender. That's all it is, very simple, all can thrive just fine.

I'm personally waiting for a hybrid that uses an RTG as the second power source.

Ice vehicles towing can refuel in 90 seconds and never need to unhook a trailer. Try doing that with an EV.

Agree to a point. I don't know how much fuel you can pump into a tank in 90 seconds though. Flow rate is governed by regulators.

That said, my question was and still is what consumer ICE vehicle gets 600 miles towing? What's the range without towing, if so.

The point was false expectations are just that - unrealistic comparison.

Bro, you need to start actually reading the links you post... That 'article' didn't actually test the range, they simply took the notoriously inaccurate EPA estimates. And @mkg3 specifically asked about range while towing...

Bro, I have a family member who owns one of these F150. Gets (600+) miles while towing. But I found an article for you, since you are so closed minded, and unable to do your own research. ( obviously is the size of the gas tank)

I've gotten nearly 1800 miles with my Sierra EV while towing our camper, without having to stop for gas.

Bottom line, Most of us in this forum like EVs for one reason or another. But there are serious limitations when it comes to range and convenience. Some people would not see it in everyday day life if you have charge at home, and don’t travel far from home.

PS: I still love my Rivian! But I’m not blind

That's why there are so many options out there for people to choose from, ICE's will be around for a long time yet. Happy you love your Rivian.
