Weekly Rivian Responds + Roundup: SEVEN of your Questions Answered [4/24/2023]
  • When can we expect to see a RAN charger in Moab, UT?
    • We can confirm that Moab, UT is on the roadmap for Rivian Adventure Charging sites. Right now, the team is working on sourcing the power needed to operate our DC fast chargers. Once we have all the needed infrastructure and equipment in place, we'll share more with our owners.
  • One feature that seems to be missing from the trucks for off-roading that the quad motor seems ideal for is a Rivian version of "trail turn assist." Is something like this planned?
    • Yes, we're exploring vehicle features that would support steering through tight turns and narrow spaces in off-road settings.
  • Does the new and revised max pack have any improved DCFC capabilities over the large pack in regards to the ability to sustain peak loads longer or a higher charging rate deep into the pack?
    • We're working to continuously improve and optimize charging profiles on both Large pack and Max pack batteries. We'll share more details on charging performance for Max pack closer to when Max pack vehicles begin delivering to customers.
  • Is plug and charge for networks other than RAN coming? Multiple manufacturers offer it with EA or EVGO using their "flavors" of plug and charge.
    • Yes! We’re actively working with other charging networks to improve our owner experience when using their sites, including the ability to seamlessly plug and charge.
  • Any update when official EPA numbers are coming for dual + max pack?
    • EPA certification is well underway! We expect to have EPA estimated ranges for Dual-Motor + Large pack in May, and EPA estimated ranges for Dual-Motor + Max pack closer to the end of summer.
  • Will the Performance dual motor software upgrade be available to purchase after delivery or only at time of delivery? If it will be available for purchase after delivery will it be at the same price?
    • We understand there’s a lot of curiosity around Performance Dual-Motor and will be sharing more details on this software upgrade very soon.
  • Given the recent drain of the 12V systems can the 12V sensor data be exposed to the mobile application to keep track of the health of these by owners?
    • Thanks for the feedback! We'll examine how we might surface a vehicle's 12V battery health to owners.

Thanks for posting. These Rivian Responds things are usually pretty good but this one was extremely vague.

Q: “Is feature X coming at any point?”
A: “We’ll tell you later.”

"END OF SUMMER"........hopefully this doesn't translate into $4.oo per share.....

Complete non-answer for the performance dual motor upgrade question.

Either Rivian doesn’t yet know the answer…. or Rivian knows people won’t like the answer?

Do not try and find out the answer and instead realize the truth. There is no answer. Apply this to everything asked in this session.

My bet is that the EPA numbers will come out just as the first vehicles of those type are manufactured for customers. This really looks like they're sticking to May for dual-motor, but still have some variability with the max pack. This is probably due to normal ramp-up delays. They've already starting making the enduro motors, so those aren't a delay anymore. It really does seem like we'll be finding out a lot more about everything dual-motor in May. Or maybe I'll get my dual motor in May and post some Youtube videos to answer all the questions. :D

Supposedly the EPA made a change recently that doesn't allow manufacturers to self-certify, so they all have to go through third party testing. They could be ready to sell the dual motors today but until they get numbers from the EPA, they can't.

Correct, pick your poison. My guess is we will continually not like the answers.

It will only be restricted from software update later if they think people will realize how poor of a value it is after owning the vehicle.

Got to applaud Rivian's evolved how to simply say, "Soon" in several sentences now. Meaning every single answer is like a marshmallow: tasteless, unfulfilling and worthless.

I think this is the least informative Rivian Responds we’ve ever gotten on Reddit.

I understand that Rivian wants to keep competitive info closer to the vest but they need good pub right now. A solid feature roadmap would help them a lot. They don’t have to be absolute with it just state that feature X is planned for Quarter Y. They can always caveat the statement with the usual “subject to change” disclaimer. It’s not that hard.
