Why not lease one and get $7,500 and then buy out with loan or cash after 3 months?

I've run the traps on that a few times and I just don't think the math works for me. I have a few issues that are somewhat unique that make it more difficult. I am a SC resident living in Texas temporarily. Rivian doesn't lease vehicles in SC, but I'm not sure I can lease a vehicle in TX as a SC resident. Also, TX state laws make buying out a lease less advantageous because you pay the sales tax up front on the lease and then again when you buy the vehicle out. The extra $7-8k I'd pay in sales tax as a result sort of nullifies the benefit of the tax credit.

I'd certainly go that route if it weren't for those complications.

Someone who is good at math…I did just take delivery this week, leasing the R1S. Would it be cheaper to do just that, take the loan in another couple of months ?

It depends on the buy out loan rate. Given the high interest rate nowadays (easily 2x of the 2.99% rate), it can make $7500 incentive a wash or very little gain.

If you are a member, or could be a member, Navy Federal is an excellent option for a loan. My loan rate on my used (but qualifying for the new car rate) was 4.09%. Obviously, this depends on credit and terms. Here are their current rates and terms.
