Hi All,

After the latest update, climate control is horrible. First, if you set defog to blow cool air on the windshield, it blows hot air and starts to cook you out of the car. Second, when you press twice to turn it off, it really blows out the hot air until you turn it off. This makes keeping the windshield clear challenging. Especially here in the northwest when it rains.

Rivian Software Development really needs to QA better to keep things like this from happening. This can cause hazardous driving conditions.

Agree, not sure why it changed. Was better as it was.

But the volume button on the dash is a larger scale so you can use your finger… 😂

I submitted a reply post yesterday on concerns with OTA updates and introducing issues New issues after ota? I have yet to update to build 25.38 for this very reason. Your issue sounds awful. Sorry to hear about it. Being a resident of Western Oregon, like you being a Seattleite, we need a proper and reliable operating defrost system. I noticed you own a Gen 1 vehicle. I wonder if this issue is exclusive to Gen 1's or affects Gen 2's as well?

What is your temp set at when using defog? I do not believe there is any separate temperature control for the normal defog setting. It just uses your current setting along with A/C to dry the air.

Pressing twice has always activated defrost mode which is full fan, A/C, & heat.

71 on a 66 degree day. When you press once, that should blow cool air, if you press again, that should blow warm air, the 3rd time turns defrost off.

Also found issues with the new air recirculation mode - is it supposed to cycle in and out of recirculation to get more fresh air? Doesn't seem to do a thing.

Don't mean to hijack but another issue from update:

Also, after the update my steering wheel tries to amputate my legs. For some reason, after deep sleep at night, the steering wheel position goes to extreme low and stays there. After hitting the memory it doesn't return to the old setting but adopts the new low setting and everything has to be reset and memorized. Of course resetting does nothing...

Good times.

I don't believe defog mode sets the temp of the output air on the windshield, it just blows A/C air on the windshield. It is likely reacting to whatever your current HVAC temp setting is and, the current temp of the vehicle. Maybe try adjusting the temp and see if it changes?

Agreed, the 2nd press kicks it into defrost, which is hot A/C air and high fan setting.

Been there, done that. Sadly, same results.

I moved forward with the update yesterday afternoon. I drove the vehicle post upgrade with 🤞 that everything worked as before and no new issues would be introduced. I am happy to report all is well, at least for those issues reported on the Forum post 25.38 update that I was able to test.

My defog/defrost cycle seems to work as before (1 push = cold air, 2 push = hot air, 3 push = off). Fan speed for 1 push is slow to moderate as before, air was cool (SP = 73, air temp 52). 2 push fan speed is high with hot air. The cabin air/external air button now has an "auto" mode that cycles between external and cabin air. Seemed to work. I did hear the heat pump come on during one of the cycles. Not sure why. Maybe it was just the HP fan to help move the air. And, as mentioned above, not exactly sure how you confirm where the air is coming from. Maybe drive behind a smelly diesel pick-up for a bit. If you smell the diesel fumes, you know you're getting air from outside.

Some of the other issues reported like steering wheel position, various driver specific settings, and most importantly charging with our Tesla Level 2 wall charger (we own a the Tesla Universal charger with the dual J1772 and NACS adapter built in) all function as before.

Call me lucky I guess 🤷‍♂️.

Really happy you came through with flying colors.
