I just have to find a more 'head on' image or it's going to be hard to adjust (at least for me--I'm not art savvy). Let me see if I can track one down and give me a week or so to dial it in.

Heyyy Rivian Forums, fans, and compatriots.

So, here's the thing.

Rivian feels pretty passionately that I'm infringing on their IP.

I am not a lawyer.

And.

I like Rivian (like a lot--hence why I drive one).

I'm not here to make enemies. I also (DEFINITELY) cannot afford lawsuits!

I hope everyone here understood when I originally posted my little guy that I did so because I'm enthusiastic about the brand.

It was in response to that excitement that I offered to sell "Gary." But admittedly, I knew there could be a situation where we didn't see eye to eye (myself and Rivian), so when I built the Etsy shop, I was verily careful not to use any of the trademarks listed on: https://rivian.com/legal/brand

So, when the store was taken down, citing the "Rivian Logo" and certain Rivian terms, I was confused, and reached out to Rivian not anticipating a response. And in the meantime I'd made mention I was going to see about setting the store back up (hoing it was all a mistake/misunderstanding.. I *did* have that one photo of Gary attached to my Wall Charger, and I thought...maybe they didn't like I had the compass logo in a photo to advertise).

Well, the 'clarification' came today that Rivian feels it made its position clear, and I am to cease any and all sales of the "Gear Guard." I'm also disallowed from sharing the 3d print files (even for free).

Again, not a legal scholar. So, I'm not going to pontificate as to what I believe is right and or wrong on this topic. The safe play is for me to do what Rivian is asking me to do and apologize for not doing my due diligence. Afterall, they have been nice enough to give me an explanation, and have at least 'asked' me to stop, instead of going straight to 'taking legal action' to defend their IP.

I *did* ask if there were any licensing options (especially as Rivian themselves, as far as currently aren't selling any Gear Guard badges, decals, or emblems). However, given the history of other third party sellers attempt to request licensing for Rivian stuffs and their lack of response, I'm not hopeful that'll happen. Notwithstanding, I've never done anything of that nature before, and I have a feeling it'd be unsustainable to make over-priced Garies to cover licensing fees.

ANYWAY, this a long-winded "I'm shutting down" story.
Hopefully there are no hard feelings from the Rivian folks (especially those who are probably reading this now).

Hopefully there are no misunderstandings that I came into this trying to make a quick buck or anything nefarious.
I just wanted to continue sharing the Rivian love with everyone.

The ultimate reason for this post: I verily didn't want to leave anyone hanging when it all just vanished. And I wanted to be clear that I'm not continuing to sell or trade any 3d Printed Yetis per Rivian's request.

Hopefully sometime soon, Rivian finds it in their Yeti-hearts to figure out licensing deals or at least sell us some sweet Gear Guard merch we can all adorn our R1s with.

I think we all pretty much knew this would happen. I respect both sides' position--IP has to be zealously defended, but your shop enhanced, rather than diminished, the brand's value. There isn't an easy solution the way our IP laws are structured (and a lot of my career has been spent creating IP, so I mostly really like those laws!).

I'm glad I made my (now illicit) purchase early and shall treasure my Garys!
