In that case, just say "Alexa, garage door <name> activate." Should be some way to train Alexa to recognize <name>.
I could even see something as simple as “Alexa, activate <name>” or as detailed as “Alexa, activate <name> garage door opener.” Just like at home I can say, “Alexa, turn on cabinet” as a shorter version of “Alexa, turn on the cabinet lights.” I think this is a familiar syntax for people who use Alexa: wake word then action then name of item to act upon.

No matter how you implement it, it seems like it should be pretty straightforward. It could be that Rivian developers have other priorities.

Works for me using Nexx as the integration.

There are many things Alexa seems unable to do, I tried the garage door thing to no avail. I also tired "Navigate home", with home clearly set up in the navigation, and Alexa failed. finally, it asked me to provide it my address by voice, and then it worked. I asked it to open the frunk, would not do it. But if I ask to open the front trunk, it worked.
But Alexa can tell you the weather! And Madonna’s birthday! Super useful.

My Mach E can provide weather on the nav display, including radar and the forecast. But birthdays are missing. Ford offers Alexa as an option, but the built in voice control works much better than Alexa, so I turned it off.

Has anyone been able to get Alexa to activate the garage door opener? Since the garage opener is a software button that controls a basic function of the vehicle, you would think Alexa should be able to handle it. But I have yet to unlock the mystery of the correct word or words needed to have her do this simple job. Has anyone else had luck with this?
I have homekit, I just tell siri to do it, works fine if anyone has homekit, you won't need alexa.

I am at a loss why Rivian can’t just provide a list of Alexa commands that work. I’ve asked several times and it just seems to be “just try it and see if it works” I’ve already wasted too much time just trying . I have yet to be able to get the side mirrors to fold, one would think that would be a relatively simple command.

I have the Nexx garage door opener and it works with Alexa but to open it you also need to reply with a PIN code but to close it you don’t need a PIN. I can open it from anywhere not just in front of the house.

I have mine done with integration between the Alexa app, LiveKey app, and MyQ. I never use it though since it's more work to use voice commands over just pressing the screen (2 presses, but soon to be 1)

Agreed. seems exactly in the Alexa wheelhouse.

If you consider an alternate solution, Tailwind is another option, a MyQ competitor, but also includes a sensor in your car, Bluetooth connected to your phone, so door closes if you drive away, or opens when you get close to home. Works w Alexa. Sometimes stops working after iPhone updates, till Tailwind updates.

I wish it didn't have Alexa and I wish you didn't have to sign in to Alexa to get the best features. Not an Alexa, Google or Siri fan.

I use Josh.ai for my home. Privacy is a big deal to me. It also works much better and is far more capable, but that's for an entirely different forum!
