I'd really like a pontoon boat, in the SeaDoo Switch style, that gets like 25NM, nothing crazy. Enough deck space for a cooler, build an induction stove setup, and of course a bait well.

If the price on electric driven boats came down close to prices of ICE driven boats, I'd be VERY into them ;). 22 or 23 foot center console w/ electric for ~$80k would be very compelling.

Edit: It also needs a Yamaha style swim deck and I'm sold.

I'd love an electric boat, but this area is very early in the evolution away from ICE and sadly I see it taking a long long time to becoming mainstream. Some applications of it work great, lake boating, pontoon and sailboats, definitely interesting and viable. I'm an ocean boater with a 23 ft Sailfish DC, which is pretty fuel efficient as far as ICE boats go, and even doing an evening cruise with the kids will burn through 10G of gas, which is well past the energy storage ability of an electric boat. I applaud you all for doing it, it's just not there yet for my use case.

That said I'm quite curious about Four Winns H2E https://www.fourwinns.com/us/boat/h2e and hope it does well.

I have a ‘regular’ pontoon model that I have a Torqeedo 12 on (about 25hp) and I have two batteries that give me a lot of water time (depending on the tide and my speed I could get more than 15 hours on a full charge) but not a lot of speed on the river I keep it on (Manasquan, Jersey shore). I don’t even consider taking it onto the Atlantic. I can also get to the ICW but with how long a recharge takes, I am happy staying on the river (I have taken it through the notorious Pt Pleasant canal to the Metedeconk River as well). Yes the outboard and batteries are expensive and not popular on salt water - I take some ribbing from all the gas guzzlers and I understand sticking with your ICE boats because of the costs and performance issues with this nascent tech - but like my Rivian R1S and Tesla Model 3 - (and am awaiting a Taiga Orca electric jet ski) - if some people don’t buy now, the price won’t come down. And if people don’t see other people using these new innovations with their own eyes, we won’t be able to get more folks on the electric path!

Congratulations on your order of a Taiga Orca. It’s fun fun fun to ride.

? How much? I just want to putz around the lake. Go for a swim, throw Dougie in the water, or go fishing. I don't need any crazy hp or range.

I went with two batteries and two separate chargers for faster charging and longer range - all potentially excessive for your needs so your best bet is to find someone near you who knows how to spell pontoon and torqeedo without google and go from there. My problem was many of the built-from-scratch electric pontoons weren't made for rivers, so their power was too little for me - I am underpowered as it is at 25hp with the Torqeedo 12.0 - the ICE pontoons in my area are likely not less than 150hp outboards, some maybe up to 300hp. Given this was already two years ago, I'm assuming prices came down a bit - I was in the 60k range, all in - everything brand new. The batteries fit nicely under the back bench seat and I left the gas tank in because it was extra to remove it - I didn't have any use for the space anyway - and, if I were to sell to a gas person - would need to pay to reinstall it too! Finding something used obviously would also bring down costs but I'd guess going electric likely added about $20k over gas. But over time I figure my savings on fuel (I have solar panels here at my house) will offset some of that and, personally, peace of mind is worth something to me as well... I just do wish going electric on the water were similar to on the road - yeah, maybe I paid a little more but I will beat you by a mile to the next traffic light. On the water I could lose to a fast kayaker!

Yep, I'd love an electric boat but until someone can make a 17 ft bow rider that can maintain 30 mph for min. 2 hours and sell it for under $30k will keep my 17' ft. Bayliner and 90 hp Mercury FourStroke as my only gas burning item left. Towed with my R1T of course!
That's a big ask with today's tech. We'll all keep our fingers crossed! Sadly, I think by the year that the technology matches those specs, I think the trailer alone may have increased from $3,000 to $6 or $8,000.
In any case, enjoy both!!

It is early and early adoption is typically more costly. Couldn't agree more on "use case"!

The truck tows this thing better than our diesel but we average 1.0 miles/kWh at highway speeds so we don't typically tow long distance outside of ~200 miles. The X Shore / Rivian combo definitely turns some heads at the boat ramp. We will be towing around an Ingenity 23e soon once it gets added to the fleet!
I’ll be over to see your Exelon 8000!
