Yes, many of us did.

Thankfully there are other methods to test before your purchase.

No test drive or test ride here. The first Rivian I ever sat in was the one I purchased on the day I picked it up from the factory
Same here. Pre-order in 21 but just picked it up a few weeks ago. Was going to test drive a friend's but a garage door malfunction when he was backing out put an end to that (and his liftgate window). In the end the first one I stepped into was mine when we picked it up. There were a bunch sitting around the center in Mahwah the day I went but as tempted as I was I did not climb in to any of them.
It's my first EV and I was thinking as I left the parking lot (in a decidedly less than smooth fashion) that had I test drove one I might have canceled my reservation based on the first few minutes. So I'm really glad I didn't because once I got over the initial learning curve of OPD (which was mostly day one) it's a really great car. I'm still not the smoothest driver with it, but I feel that's improving and is more a reflection of my newness to EVs than to the car itself.
We also really appreciated the lack of the usual car dealership hard sell approach, but I'm not sure how if at all that would have changed if we had gone for an official test drive.
Ultimately it's your call, but I'm happy not having gone on a test drive first. Happens to be thag with other cars I did go on test drives first and ended up not going with them based on that, but other cars (leases) took me much longer than just the test drive to make me realize I would not consider getting a new lease on the same model or brand.

First time I drove a Rivian was the day I handed over an $80k cashiers check to pay and pickup my R1T in June 2022 --I reserved one in Aug 2021.

To at least see one in person, I visited a First Mile event (aka, Rivian Petting Zoo) a few months before my June 2022 purchase. I also stalked the South SF service center a few times before purchasing.

I primarily relied on Press, Media, and YouTube reviews. I also listed to and watched many interviews with and talks by RJ. I was impressed with RJ and in Rivian's overall mission. It was a bit of a leap of faith, but not a blind one.

Hope you bought by now? but after watching all the youtubes and reading articles, just buy already! Obviously you like what you see and hear about it. Good luck!

Thanks. But have not bought it yet. Waiting for some good deals on lease. Will likely wait till December and pull the trigger.

Thank you everyone who chimed in. It definitely boosted my confidence and helped me make the decision.
