I have a Kia EV6 GT-L FE with CarPlay, AM radio, and SiriusXM - and I had a Ford Mach E GTPE with CarPlay, AM radio, and SiriusXM. Low-level rocket science. Not complicated.

I encouraged two people to take a Rivian test drive. They both LOVED the vehicle - but walked away because of no CarPlay. Like it or not - this was a major marketing failure. I have worked around it but most folks don't want to go to the trouble.

Unfortunately, this will have a harmful effect on R2 sales if Tesla gives existing Y owners CP...
"in bid to boost sales" means it almost certainly won't come to already-shipped vehicles.

Also, it's just a rumor at this point. If Elon announces it's going to come on new vehicles starting in January, then expect it to happen in June.

2027.

They’ve copied lots of things from Tesla. This will be the next thing they copy. No way they’re going to continue to resist when the software is already so far behind Tesla. Hopefully will free up resources to focus on autonomy which has no such easy button solution.
My friend, you underestimate the arrogance and hubris of Mr Scaringe. 😛

The cheaper cars have it since their infotainment is usually absolute garbage.
By cheaper brands you mean BMW, Porsche, , Audi, MB, Rolls Royce, Bugatti, Lexus, Acura, etc?

This will revitalize Tesla! I'm going to buy a CT now so I can be ready for CarPlay! This will save the company! The stock will go to the Moon!

Oh, wait stock was down 6% yesterday. Fear not, Buy Tesla stock now, CarPlay will take it to the Moon!

Not...

Adding CP to Telsa will increase sales about as much as a pimple on Elon's Ass.

This is because Telsas are all old and undesirable now. Couple that with Elon being a lunatic and you have sales dropping like a stone. Yet another idiotic decision from Elmo and company, they spent the last 10 years talking about how great their software is, only to capitulate to CarPlay.

It's not their software that's responsible for their lagging sales; it's everything else about their cars. Their cheap-looking interiors without a driver screen, their dumb decisions for yokes and turn signal buttons, lack of an overhead camera, and stagnated designs are the major reason for their sales decline. Other companies that make more compelling vehicles have entered the EV space and pretty much all of them make better vehicles. Tesla's only strength was their software, so CarPlay isn't going to help.
Pretty much my initial thoughts on this situation, but I do suspect there are a number of people that will buy the car because all they want is a carplay appliance. Those people will be perfectly happy with a substandard vehicle in every other metric.

There is 0% chance this is true. Tesla margins are falling off a cliff and their buyers don’t even want CarPlay.

Jumpin in here... I don't own a Rivian, yet, but can you use your phone's hot spot and use it with a CarPlay adapter like this working through the infotainment system?
CarPlay

We deserve to choose the platform we want to use.
What? DESERVE?

By this logic, if I like '70s fuzzy captain seats and chrome bumpers, I deserve it from Rivian?!?!?!

You can choose the platform you want - go buy a Ford, etc.

Tesla Model Y, for a few days before I “swap” it for an R1S

The best thing Tesla had going for it was its charging network. The moment they opened that up, they tied a noose around their necks. I personally am fine with that.
Absolutely! Tesla’s EVs aren’t bad (except arguably the CyberTruck), but the day is long past when they were the only obvious choice. For basically any individual feature you can find at least one EV that does it better. Except until recently the charging network.

Three years ago when I decided between a model Y and an R1 the R1 was the better vehicle, but I picked the model Y because I wanted to be able to drive places without worrying about finding chargers that worked. This year when my wife and I decided to get out of the model Y the R1 hadn’t really changed in any significant way, but the charging networks had. My wife keeps asking me why I didn’t buy the R1 years ago, and every time we stop and charge at a Supercharger I remind her that it wasn’t possible years ago.
