Weird sitting "down" into the Rivian rather than climbing up into it.

Taken me a while, buy finally getting around to getting my tire pressure monitor sensors (TPMS) to work again. Had them working, but then had the wheels dismounted and new tires put on and they sat in the garage for a few weeks. When I finally put them back on, the sensors didn't work. So now going through the recommended process of letting almost all of the air out of the tires, let it sit for 30 minutes, fill them back up, reactivate the sensors and then drive it. Hopefully this will get them working again. Fingers crossed. Have a road trip planned next week, so would be a nice security blanket to have them.

Rivian R1T R1S As low as it will go!! 1685842524080

EDIT: 06/04/2023: Happy to report, sensors are working again. When I first got in the truck, it said the LF tire was low, while the three other's hadn't registered yet. I drove for about 4-5 miles. The other three popped up, but the left front still showed low. I pulled over and let just a very little bit of pressure out of the left front. Within 1/2 mile, it correctly reflected the tire pressure. So all are in good working condition again.

I had to do this to get our R1S out of the garage with the tent on the roof. Took a surprisingly long time with the valve cores still in.

As far as your reasoning for doing this, very strange. Swapping wheels from season to season just requires a short drive for the sensors to pick back up.

As I noted, had the tires swapped. Sensors need to be reset if you depressure all of the tires, which of course is the case when changing tires. I threw my other set on temporarily. If you just take off a winter set and leave them filled with air, then they should work when you bolt them back on. But, after dismounting, they need to be reset and you have to drive it right away after resetting them. If they sit or were not reactivated immediately after mounting the tires, then they likely won't work (been the case with me 3 times now).

The first time I did it, I let the air out manually and it took FOREVER. Never again. Got a valve core remover tool and used that this time. Took only a minute or so for each tire to come down. So much easier.

Your story reminds me of a story I read years ago when a box truck got stuck under a bridge. After hours and hours, they couldn't figure out how to get it unstuck. Then an 8 year old girl riding along in a passing car said "why do you just let the air of the tires?". Truck was unstuck a few minutes later. Amazing how the simple solutions can skip our adult minds at times!
