I owned an earlier BMW x7 with Apple CarPlay and I’m pretty sure it consumed the entire screen. You had to exit CP to get to iDrive. This likely changed now for most vehicles. Perhaps this is what Wassym experienced?

Our 2019 and 2023 Bolts also had CarPlay that took over the whole screen. Drove me nuts.

Based on this experience, I'm happier without CarPlay. "Different strokes for different folks...."

This suggests to me, maybe incorrectly, that you don't know you could just not use it. There's a seemingly common misconception that if it's there, it's going to be active. Never, not in any car, does it forcibly enable itself.

That's correct, @SwampNut. I don't use it. Happier that way.
