It’s natural wood veneer people…. I noticed it right away when taking delivery. Once you see it it takes a bit of time to unsee it. It’s pretty minor and I accept it as price for having the beautiful wood and complex curve shapes. If you want minimalist ‘perfection’ get a Tesla with its cheap looking interior

Totally unacceptable! Give it back to Rivian, Lemon law!

Real Wood expands and contracts. Since it is not a crack and simply a seam, so to speak then …hopefully, the finish Rivian used will prevent further wood movement in hot and cold environment of the R1T.
Wood putty works wonders if it really bothers you.

Yours looks like too much stain was left at that joint.
Yeah that's exactly it I think. I don't mind the cut/joint... that's totally normal but in my case it has this dark contrasting stain around the cut making it pretty visible from the distance... like someone highlighting the cut with a sharpie... "look it's right here, you see?" First thing I see as I reach the shift knob. ?

Looking at the way the grain lies with the "crack".. I dont think its a crack. I think the wood workers had to trim the wood in this location to bend it to the needed curve of the rest of the dash. See how the grain suddenly changes direction at the "crack".. Its designed this way.

As a hobbyist woodworker who does veneer work, the removal of the wood was necessary to avoid a bad 'wrinkle' when it was being pressed. It appears to me that you had the misfortune of having a small knot right at the base of where the wedge was removed. This accentuates the seam and gives the appearance of a larger defect.
