I got a timely email from Rivian today asking me "Have you tried autonomy+?" Yes, I have, and it not only sucks but it is dangerous. I just wrapped up an 800 mile road trip up to Mammoth and while driving there late Thursday night I was hoping to rely on the autonomy+. I don' know if it was the high winds but the car first started to ping pong but then it went way beyond that where I was concerned the sharp movement back and forth would cause the car to crash - it was like self induced violent speed wobbles. Incredibly dangerous. I never used it again on the way there. on the way home I tried it and it would start to ping pong again but I never tested the limits of it as I didn't want to find out.
1. There were very high winds - could this be the cause?
2. I was thinking one of the cameras could have been blocked by a smashed bug - lots of bugs on the front of the car. But I didn't get any error messages for obstructed camera.
I don't have any other explanation other than most likely the system doesn't do well in high winds. When I am at home it seems pretty reliable except a few phantom braking issues.
