After nearly 90,000 miles over 3 years and 8 months of ownership, we traded in our 2022 R1S Launch Edition for a 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid. Never had any major problems with the Rivian, and our experience with the brand has been great, but we put a lot of miles on our cars and I've been nervous ever since the bumper-to-bumper warranty expired. Plus we wanted more range for our regular family trips between SoCal and the Central Valley. Still rooting for the company to succeed and I still hold some stock. Hope to re-join the Rivian family in the future, maybe with an R3 in 2028/2029 after the lease on my IONIQ 5 is up.
I expect the Santa Fe will be our family hauler for a long time, at least until our youngest finishes high school many years from now. Having owned only BEVs since getting the Rivian in 2022, I'm staggered every time I see 600 miles of range on a full tank. Given our mileage habits, I bought an extended warranty for the first time ever after the Hyundai dealership further reduced the vehicle price as a final incentive. Trade-in value for the Rivian was acceptable despite the high mileage, a couple of dings in the panels, a broken trim and sensor over the right front wheel, and a shattered rear glass panel that we sustained two days before trade in (the universe was telling us something). Financed the rest at 0%, Hyundai's current offers are pretty good.
